Sector-By-Sector Backup - for bad sectors??

Thread needs solution

I am still unclear whether I can use "Sector-By-Sector Backup" as the option for imaging my hard drive - which has bad sectors on it and (I assume) will cease to function quite soon.

Trying to run ordinary Backup does not work.

Can anyone point me to the literature that explains this issue please?

Many thanks.

If you know you have bad sectors then you would be best to validate any backup in case you need to use it should the drive fail completely.

I would recommend downloading a copy of HDAT2 http://www.hdat2.com/ and use this to try to reassign any bad sectors on your drive while it is still working well enough to allow it - this utility will also give you a better idea of just how many bad sectors you may have on the drive.

An alternative way to run HDAT2 is to use the Hiren's Boot CD then use the DOS programs link when it boots to launch HDAT2 from the list of tools shown there.

Steve,

Thanks for your follow-up. You provided help that was missing.
