Select the items to recover - ?
We have made an image of the whole disk.
When recovering we are asked do select:
NTFS (C:) Pri 167GB
MBR and Track 0
NTFS (System Reserved) Pri, Act. 350Mb
The only item that we recognize here is the first one.
1 - By selecting the first one only, Acronis completes the task successfully but Windows is not booting. It goes right into BIOS.
2 - If we select all 3 items above, then we get asked where to restore each one of them. We only have one empty hard drive to restore to, so where should we restore the other 2 items to?

I have tried to add all 3 items one by one in all possible sequences.
It allows to add "Track 0" and "C:" to the same disk but not the MBR.
I made a 60second video: http://youtu.be/hq1yzIwKL24
Any idea? Thanks in advance!

Look at link #3 below and follow the instructions suggested in item #1. restoring to smaller or larger hard drive.
An easier option might be possible but that depends upon how you created your backup.
When selecting what was to be included within the backup,
1. Did you accept the first screen and checkmark Drive C and checkmark the System Restore
or
2. On the first screen, did you select the "Switch to disk mode" option which moved you the next screen where the entire disk was selected.
If your backup was the partition type as in question 1., then you are stuck with my suggestiion above of using link 3, item 1 "restore to smaller or larger " drive.
However, if your backup was done using the "switch to disk mode" option, ( example is listed in link 2 below, the very first picture.)
then you can use the much easier link #3, item 2 "disk option restore".
-----------------------------------------
For the future:
When creating future backups, choose the "swtich to disk mode" option and your future restores will be much simpler and easier.
When restoring the disk mode or disk image backup , in the recovery where you select what is to be restored,
A. you make a single checkmark beside the "disk 1" option and all boxes will become additionally checked.
B. you will auto bypass the configuring of each partition and go direct to the target selection screen,
where you will select your target disk (either old or new).
C. On the same target selection screen, also checkmark the "Recovery disk signature" located in lower left corner of target selection screen.
All this is covered in the referenced link #3, item 2 below.

Dear GroverH
My silence was reflecting intensive nights of tests as you can imagine!
I have read through your literature and thank you very much for that great work.
I am able to create a "disk image backup" and restore it using your method.
Now, when I try to apply the same method to a RAID system, the things do not finish so well.
- I am able to create a "disk image backup" of a RAID disk and restore it to a non-RAID disk.
- I am able to create a "disk image backup" of a non-RAID and restore it to a RAID disk, BUT Windows gives an error during boot: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart"
Looking at the LOG file (attached) it looks like it loads the RAID controller drivers correctly but still it gives this error afterwards when windows is booting up.
I tried with "recovering disk signature" and without but its still giving that error both ways.
I also tried not loading the drivers by skipping the "Universal restore" but it went the same way!
Do you have an advice? (I have bought the Premium version to be sure there are no limitations)

I can't help you with RAID.
Remember, the restore need to be done when booted from the CD.
Use the search function at the top of this page and search for
restoring a raid system
Another thing you could try would be to boot from the CD and perform a full disk option backup when booted from the CD. When you to the screen where you select what is to be included within the backup, place a single checkmark in the box beside "disk". Other boxes will become checked automtically. There is also the option to validate if you wish to do so (recommended). The validation is one of the options on the last screen (lower left).
Then, you can use the new backup and try the restore again.
Extract from guide:
If wanting to use the TI Recovery CD to perform a "disk mode" or "disk image" backup, this next link will show you how to create this type backup image by check-marking the disk option so all partitons & mbr will be included within the backup.
Example also applicable to 2011-2012 & 2013 and close on 2014.

Note: TrueImage does NOT have to be installed in order to use the Recovery CD to create backups or to restore a prior backup.

Thank you GroverH
I will start a new thread to learn about restoring to a RAID disk. As for non-RAID restores, thanks to you, I feel I am mastering it well.
I use Acronis on Windows to make the Disk Image and I use the USB (not CD) boot disk to restore the Disk Image. Hope thats fine or would you even recommend doing the backup by booting from the USB boot disk as well?
Cheers
