"Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4 unable to open file. No such file. No such directory" Error when booting recover CD

Thread needs solution

I have created a recover CD with True Image Home 2010. When I select the true image option from the menu it starts to boot then it displays the following error "Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4 unable to open file. No such file. No such directory". It then boot into the recover program but I am unable to restore any images or create any new images. I am also not able to validate the image from within the True Image application. I am using the latest trial version of the software.

I am including the Acronis System Report.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Update: Downloaded software again and made a new boot image from within the software. Still the same error. I can also not mount the image. Acronis just hangs

Hello Merril,

Thank you for posting. I will do my best to assist you.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience but this issue requires additional investigation so that we can resolve it.

Please download the latest boot CD from your Acronis web-account, it was updated recently and we can check how it runs on your machine.

Any chance you are running it on a Dell computer? If yes, please let me know and I will send you a private message with a custom boot CD that we have for Dell machines.

If no, please collect the following report and contact our Support team, I am confident that we will be able to resolve this problem.

By the way, the error message "Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4 unable to open file. No such file. No such directory" is a generic message which can be safely ignored, it was removed from our latest media in order no to scare our Customers. What gave me a hint was your description of working within the GUI.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

The latest boot CD from the site worked for me and there is no error.

Thanks Anton

I have this same error, and am running on a Dell desktop.
Per this comment (Any chance you are running it on a Dell computer? If yes, please let me know and I will send you a private message with a custom boot CD that we have for Dell machines.) please send me the custom boot cd mentioned.

Dick

Hello Merril and Richard,

Thank you for your messages.

Merril, I am glad that the issue is resolved.

Richard, I just sent you a private message with the download links and if you have additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

I have Acronis 2010, a Dell PC, and when I do a Restore using a bootable CD created by ATH, I also get the "Missing Libpcapso" message (which I now see that I can ignore). I see by the previous messages that there are fixes, but they require a "Private Message" from the moderator. I think it would be helpful to post a "public" reply that answers the following questions:

1) What is the nature of the error? What is "libpcapso"? Why does it affect Dell PCs (only)? Should all Dell users of Acronis systems notify you for a "private" fix?

2) I am considering upgrading to ATH 2011. Has this issue been fixed in this new release?

Thank you for your consideration.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum. I will definitely help you with this issue.

The error message "Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4 unable to open file. No such file. No such directory" is a generic message which can be safely ignored. The latest build of Acronis True Image 2010, 7046, where this message was prominent, does not display this message anymore. Sometimes other issues occurred, such as Acronis Loader freezing or program gui reboot on Dell machines after the above error was shown, which led our Customers to believe that they are somehow related.

The second issue occurs on Dell machines, when using the bootable media our software reboots almost immediately. This has been fixed in all versions of our software, except Acronis True Image 2010 Home. This problem will be addressed in the next build. In the meantime, the "custom" version can be downloaded from a unique link generated by Acronis support which I will send you in a few minutes.

I will also send you a download link for the bootable media for Acronis True Image 2011 Home so that you can test it. It is a trial version and it cannot backup. You can download a regular trial version from here.

If you have additional questions or any other issues, please let me know.

Thank you.

I have a Dell machine running Windows 7. When I try to restore the system using Acronis under Windows 7, or from my recovery disk, it gives that libcap message. Under Windows 7 (which I have just had to re-install!!!) it says it is recovering the system from my external drive but when it (finally?) tries to reboot, it fails with no message, and the disk light just flickering. From the disk, it does not detect the external drive at all.

Please propose a fix so that I don't have to reinstall all of my system (which, of course, is what I thought I bought Acronis to avoid).

Thank you

... as a follow-on. Please don't email the solution as I have not reinstalled Outlook, as I still hope I can restore my backup!

Hello Crispin,

Thank you for posting. I will do my best to assist you.

This issue will require additional investigation, if you like we can do it after this workaround.

I will send you a private message with a trial version for the Acronis True Image 2011 Home bootable media, which supports backups created with version 2010, and since it was released much later than version 2010, it will have better hardware support. We can try using to see if it detects your external hard drive. As a trial version it is limited to recovery operations only.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

It seems that True Image 2010 build 7046 still has this ""Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4" error (though it is not a real bug according to Anton). What about build 7154? Can anyone confirm it? Thanks.

I'm seeing this in the very latest build, which I downloaded just yesterday, for True Image Home 2012.

I see this as part of the Bootable media boot, I consider this just to be an informational message and not as an error message.
The boot program is processing a whole bunch of checks to takes certain action based on whether the results are true or false and unless the program stops at that point, I just ignore the message as not relating to me.
