Should cloning wipe the source drive?
True Image 2013 (download from WD). Windows 7 box.
I wanted to clone my old Seagate 80 Gb drive to a new WD 500 Gb. The Seagate had a 'System Reserved' partition. I ran True Image, selected cloning, left it in automatic. The cloning worked fine - at least, the new drive boots, and everything seems to be there. However, on the old drive, everything except the 'System Reserved' partition seems to be gone.
This is not a huge deal - I have a bootable drive, which is what I wanted. But, I expected the Seagate would remain intact, and I'd be able to return to it if something should happen to the WD. The True Image 'User Guide' appears to say this should be so. Questions:
1. If there's a simple explanation for this, I'd appreciate hearing it. In particular, is it a consequence of the 'System Reserved' partition?
2. Is there a way to recover what was on the old drive?
3. If not, can I do something to copy/clone/whatever the new drive back content to the old one, and bring that back to its previous condition? I haven't made any changes to the old drive.
Thanks
