Should I upgrade from True Image Home 11 to 2010?
I got an upgrade offer email recently, and noticed one thing that piqued my interest:
"Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack to bring backup capability to a near-corporate level, enabling you to restore files to dissimilar hardware."
What confused me is I thought True Image Home 11 can backup XP and restore it to the same or different PC provided the new hard drive you are restoring to is as big or bigger than the old hard drive.
Now I know it won't work always if you go to a completely different PC, but it might work sometimes because Windows is so good at running on different PC hardware.
But at least, with True Image Home 11 I can backup an XP hard drive, and if it fails, restore to a different hard drive that is as big or bigger right?

Yes, providing the backup archive you intend to use as a restore was a backup created as a "disk" option backup.

This type backup includes all partitions on the disk including any hidden or diagnostic partitions. I have XP Pro and none of the TrueImage Home versions have every failed to perform a good restore on a validated backup. Such a restore must be performed when booted from the TI Rescue CD. If the restore is to a new drive or a larger drive, it is best that the old disk be removed and the new one put in its place before restoring. Restore can then occur from another disk such as an external. Check the index of references found inside my signature below. Item #7 and item #2 should be interesting.
