Shrink disk size at restore?

Thread needs solution

Hello altogether,

with "True Image Home 2012", can I create an image of a disk and restore that to a smaller disk?

There are two partitions with less than 2 TB in size on a RAID volume with about 10 TB. Can I create a backup of that disk and restore it to a true 2 TB disk? The size would fit, but I'm not sure, whether this is technically possible. Maybe with the PlusPack?

Additionally I found a document where I don't know how up-to-date that is. It can be found under http://kb.acronis.com/content/20522 and says, that the "Universal restore" feature of TrueImage 2010 and 2011 can not be used with Windows Server 2008. Can the universal restore feateure be used on Windows Server 2008 with True Image 2012???

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Frank

You don't need Universal Restore. Universal Restore is for "restoring" a system backup onto a dissimilar system, a different PC with different hardware.

You just need to restore, but do do so in a more manual process that allows you to resize partitions. I know there is a guide on how to do that, probably one of Grover's guides (links in left margin of forums). I'm not sure which guide is best, so have a look there and I'm sure Grover or another MVP will be along to identify an appropriate guide.
