Simple Question: Can you restore a tib file to the same hard drive it was stored on?
Hi, I am getting the hang of some of this recovery and restoration, but this one method doesn't add up. Why can't I restore the tib file in my slave hard disk to the same slave disk and then have it boot up from there, as my dead master drive is no longer in the picture.
A few people in here and elsewhere say I need another drive or disk. You mean I saved the image of the old hard drive for nothing on the slave drive. I am not comprehending, why you can't just restore the tib file inside the file folder on the slave drive and then use that to boot up and run the computer....hmmm.
I guess what I am saying, is I don't want to get another hard drive, is this the only way this can be accomplished. Anyway, am getting a bit impatient now with ATI, as saving the images and restoring seems to be a monumental task, hope you can help, DR

wow, guess there is no way to accomplish this procedure. I do believe that this should be a major addition to any future versions of ATI. I mean, you are just restoring a tib file to the beginning of the hard drive, so it can be booted and run from there. I really thought there was a workaround. So, please clarify, if I get let's say a usb drive, I can restore the tib to that and then bring it back in to the good slave drive. I have to tell You, if you can't do this, then ATI is basically, to use a rough term, useless. Why did I save the image of the dying hard drive then, only to be put back on another one, am sure it would be the best way, but one of my SATA ports is broken, thus the reason for my inquiry. Anyway, appreciate the help, will see if another software can do it, in the future if this is not possible with ATI. DR

I am going to read this this afternoon. The quote makes it seem like this is possible, hmmm, got to iron out these wrinkles, DR

This new guide illustrates how to restore a TrueImage Home backup of the Windows Drive C system partition overtop an existing Windows Drive C partition. This type restore is normally used to refresh an existing installation with a recent backup of the same partition. The guide can also be used as an example on how to restore a backup of a single partition overtop an existing matching partition. Download the PDF file for more detailed information and illustrated examples.

My guide does not imply the location as to where the tib file is stored. My guide talks about the restore process--it does not imply that a restore is being done over the same partition where the tib file is stored.
Copy your tib file to another disk or flashdrive and then the tib file can be restored overtop itself (old data wiped and tib backup file restoed into its place.)
