Single version backup does not work

Thread needs solution

Single version image backup does not work when there is not enough space for two complete images. The backup proceeds seemingly normally in the beginning, but, in the end, the old image is deleted, the new one is not saved and no standard error warning e-mail is sent. I a word, complete disaster from which Acronis is supposed to save. That was never an issue with Acronis True Image Home 10, which I would gladly use instead of the very buggy 2012 if there were no problems with aligning in the older version. I tried other things, like regular backups with retention policies, but nothing works as it should. Why does Acronis True Image get worse from older versions to the new ones? What can I do in this situation aside from getting a bigger disk? The whole idea of a single backup was to be able to work on limited space. It seems to be compromised now.

In the more recent version, Acronis implemented a rule by which no full backup is deleted before a new full is completed. So you will need enough space for at least 2 full backups.

In addition, there have been issues with the single version scheme. A workaround is to set the backup task to incremental, do a new full after one incremental, turn auto-cleaning on keep only 1 most recent version.

Since editing backup scheme, names, retention rules, destination can result in unexpected behaviors at restore time, it is better to create a new task.

Single version still doesn't work in Acronis 2014. What I want is for the existing backup to be deleted each night and a new backup written. Is there a way to get this version to do this.

Phil,
The program is designed to create the replacement first and then the prior backup will be deleted.
This can be done by setting the custom backup option "store no more than "1" recent change.
This example shows keep 4 but can be changed to 1.

Custom Full Backup Scheme.Keep 4 versions (chains).

For those users who absolutely must have the deletion occur before the replacement is created is faced with the need to either
1. use the program and manually delete the prior backup before the task begins.
2. or, create a batch file to have Windows do the deletion automtically before the backup actually begins.
This can be done by adding the "deletion batch file" to the TI backup under the "Backup options" section with the "Pre/post Pre command" options.
3. or Add the Chain2Gen helper program to assist TI with this effort. See signature link below for C2G link.
