Slow small file backup

I am running Windows 7 and have been using Acronis True Image Home 2010 without any problems. I am backing up to a fairly new Seagate Backup Plus usb drive (using usb 2.0). I just updated to Acronis True Image 2015 and my backups seem to run very slow. I have one file, 21.2 mg in size that when backing up the message "calculating time remaining" is displayed for almost 3 minutes until the status bar starts moving then takes but a few seconds to complete. Perhaps this is normal but it never happened with my earlier 2010 version, the backup was almost instantaneous.
The settings are:
Single Version backup scheme, system files excluded, validation set to on, operation priority high (have tried low, same results), backup splitting set to auto.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong will be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention, I procrastinated and let my 30 day free technical support period elapse so thought I would try to get my answer here. Kind of a short support period.
