[Solved] Win 10 - ATI 2015.6613 - Event 7000: Acronis TIB Mounter service failed to start...

Thread needs solution

Installed application: Acronis True Image 2015 version 6613

The full error message is:
The Acronis TIB Mounter service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

If you look in Device Manager there are no Acronis Devices.

The problem for me was that I had two incompatible versions of tib_mounter.sys.

The Acronis device installer file found here:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\tib_mounter.x64.inf_amd64_63d68406fce1e4ca\tib_mounter.x64.sys
was version 4.0.3.2228

But the actual installed driver found here:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\tib_mounter.sys
was version 4.0.3.2230

The Fix:

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD BACKUP - YOU MAY NEED TO RESTORE!!!

Open Device Manager
select Action->Add legacy hardware
Next
select Install the hardware that I manually select...
Next
select Acronis Devices
Next

Two or more may show up, click one

Next

If it installs with error, try the next one.

When successfully done, Device Manager will show Acronis Devices->Acronis TIB Mounter version 4.3.0.2228

This will fix the TIB Mounter problem, but another problem then appeared with the TIB Archive Explorer which suggested a re-install of Acronis.

To fix this I clicked on the installer file:

AcronisTrueImage2015_6613_en-US.exe

and selected 'Repair'.

This took a bit of time, be patient.

Then I had to restart and repair again.

Finally it repaired successfully and TIB files mount OK.

This was difficult because Acronis was installed under Windows 8 and this was a Windows 10 upgrade. The uninstall and re-install don't work very well, and the cleanup tool also doesn't work.

I had to restore my image several times after following unworkable repair paths before I came upon this solution.
