"Specified file does not exist"

Thread needs solution

I have just upgraded to True Image Home 2010 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version. I was previously using True Image 11 Home on Vista 64-bit.

When I try to backup files to my external hard disk (which I used for backup with no problem on my previous setup), I receive the error message "specified file does not exist", and the backup halts. However, I am able to backup to a second internal hard disk. All other programmes, and Windows Explorer, seem able to access the external hard disk without problems.

Try increasing the IRQStackSize parameter in your computer's registry. Note that this may not resolve the issue since some hard disks (due to firmware) throw errors when copying/creating really large files when hooked up in an external USB enclosure. I have a Seagate IDE drive that has this problem. The drive works fine if it is installed internally on an IDE ribbon. But if I put it in a known good external USB enclosure which I have used with various other IDe and SATA drives, then the particular Seagate drive's firmware causes this error which is not the fault of Acronis.

I have no idea how to increase the IRQStackSize parameter. And, as I said, this disk worked perfectly using Vista and True Image 11; this seems to be a specific problem caused by the combination of Windows 7 and True Image 2010

I have the same "specified file does not exist" message since the installation of Windows 7 and upgrade to True Image 2010. I'm still waiting to hear back from Acronis support - this seems to be a problem that others are also having.

Hello all,

Let me assist you with this situation.

First of all, we do not have a parameter called IRQStack size, we have one called IRPStackSize - it's responsible for number of filters for Microsoft Lanman Server. And such issues are related to Shared folders access failure after installation of Acronis. Please check this article for the detailed description.

Roland and Susan, this issue can be related to lack of access to original backup (if it exists, since it's not clear from the description whether you're creating one full backup or it's a part of the backup chain).

Also, it can be related to Snapshot creation process. Let's update SnapAPI drivers:

Note: this update can be installed on Acronis True Image Home 2010 only. Please contact us for the other versions update.

Then please check whether the issue persists. If it does, please recreate all current tasks, just to be sure that this issue is not related to incorrect task setup.

If this does not help either, please collect Acronis Report file, which will help us to analyze the structure of your hard drives. In order to create Acronis Report file, please download Acronis Report utility, run it and create a report. The default name of this file is "report.txt" and it is saved on your desktop.
Please attach the file to your answer in this thread.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Regards,

Thanks Alexander, but that didn't help. I installed SnapAPI with great difficulty; I had to follow the directions at http://forum.acronis.com/forum/5222 three times before I could get it to work. But it has made no difference, the programme still does not work, and tells me that the specified file does not exist. I will try recreating the task (though, as I note above, it worked perfectly with the same setup using Vista and TI 11), and if that doesn't work I'll try to download and run the Report utility.

I now find that I can no longer edit scheduled tasks. I right click and select Edit; but all that happens is that I get a popup window showing the task details, with no way of editing them.

I have downloaded and run the Report utility, and attach the result. I hopwe this will help identify and resolve the problem.
