"Specify Location For Volume" Pop-up

Thread needs solution

Hello,

This is an issue that happens once every couple of months. I am concerned about this greatly because it makes the reliability of this software questionable as well as the backups. This is even greater concern due to the fact that we made no changes to hardware. I've seen postings about this issue going back to 2009 but no solid permanent fix.

The Issue:
TI failed to perform the scheduled backup, prompting a dialog box with this message - "Specify Location For Volume x" where x is the volume number - 2 in my case. The box has 3 options: Browse, Retry & Cancel

I have tried all 3 buttons but to no success. I ran detailed check on the target disk (External USB) and there were no errors. I ran a check on the memory as well and that returned no errors either.

Basically, I am unable to get this dialog box to close and therefore I am unable to do anything with the software.

I am running W7 x64 on the said computer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eyal

Eyal,

This indicates that ATI's lost track of the first incremental or differential of your backup. The message can show up when you run validation or when you try to complete a new partial backup. The number 1 would correspond to the first full backup. This can happen if the file has been moved, renamed or deleted manually. It could happen also if you use auto=consolidation and the process didn't complete. In some cases, it happens when the backup is over a network and didn't complete normally either.

When it happens, you should assume your backup chain has been compromised.

You should delete your backup from ATI and start a new task. If this doesn't solve it, you should uninstall ATI after deleting the backup, reboot and install.
