Split backup or one giant file...

Thread needs solution

My hard drive is over 600GB of data. I am wondering about the pros and cons of splitting the backup into many files or keep it in one giant one. I will never be burning it to a CD or DVD, so that's not an issue.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
John

The purpose of splitting is so that you can fit a backup on (or across) optical disks. For that benefit you have to deal with swapping disk when you try to restore. It's not something a person would normally want to do unless one had to use optical disks for the backup storage.

In fact, when restoring a backup that's stored on optis, it's best to copy all the splits onto one harddisk and restore from there.
