I don't use ATI 2016, but with all of the other versions (ATI 2008 thru ATI2015), there is no performance difference between creating 1 large image file vs splitting the image file in multiple files. The feature of image splitting is to provide the capability to create an image's on different media types ie: DVD, BluRay, etc.

splitting has anything to do with Performance for Incremental backups after first full(splitted) backup...?
