SSD Backup and Restore

Thread needs solution

What does Acronis True Image 2015 for PC do when I select the sector-by-sector option on a backup or restore and I am backing up or restoring to an SSD? I imagine SSD drives handle sectors a bit differently with wear leveling and such.

Sector-by-sector is a rarely necessary option. It copies the information of all sectors on a disk, regardless of the information of the file system, which indicates which sectors contain useful information. When you restore sector by sector, the information is restored in the same sector it was before.

Some users get confused with this option. They think that this option is better... Not at all. The normal disk and partition backup option uses information at the sector level also, but only copies the useful information on the disk. Empty sectors are not copied.

SSD don't really handle sectors differently from the point of view of the OS, the internal logic of the disk controller takes care of the translation of the logical sector information to the hardware. So when you select this option, whether it is an SSD or not, the behavior of True Image is the same.

True Image and the OS, are aware that the disk is an SSD and will be able to use some commands or configuration options to maximize performance and useful life duration (alignment, TRIM, various optimizations, ...)
