SSD Backup/Clone

Thread needs solution

I have a situation that cannot be too uncommon: a client's computer has an SSD for c: and a spinning drive for data. Today the SSD somehow got wiped. Fortunately, it restored easily from Windows Image Backup (external drive). I hope it doesn't happen again.

That said, I started wondering if there might not be a way to use TI or some other imaging program to periodically clone c: onto a partition of the spinning drive, giving one a way to quickly reboot, albeit to a much slower drive.

Any thoughts?

Bob,
Yes, TrueImageHome can be used to create image backups of the system disk and these backups can be scheduled or manual.

If using Win7 or Win8, I do suggest you backup the entire disk as doing only C may not be adequate for restore purposes--if there is a separate boot partition.

Note that in Acronis speak, cloning is at disk level--not at partition level but a backup can be restore so the end result is identical to a clone.

If you decide to use Acronis, be sure the bootable CD is made and tested to know that the restore process works and both the source and target disks are seen by the CD.

Installation is not necessary if you are willing to only use the CD for manual backups.
