Start Up Recovery Manager

Thread needs solution

I activated Startup Recovery Manager...so that I could simply press F11 if/when I needed to boot into Acronis to restore an image to my system. I am using Windows 8.1 with a 64 gig SSD as the system drive.

The manual says that to use this feature, I should press the F11 key during boot up, when I see the "Press F11 to Start Acronis Recovery Manager..." . However, on my system, that message never appears; the system always boots directly and rapidly into Windows (in about 8 seconds). I have tried pressing the F11 at the same time I start Windows, I have also tried rapid tapping of the F11 key when I boot the computer, but still the above message never appears and Acronis Recovery Manager never starts even if I press F11.

I would like to know how to use the Startup Recovery Manager with Windows 8.1. I am certain I am not the only person with this problem.

Thank you.
Chick

I know it should work, but on UEFI/GPT/Secure boot systems, there are still many implementations variations, so it might not...

At any rate, what you really need is to make sure you can boot your computer on a USB flash drive produced by ATI as the recovery medium. This is what you will use the day your disk dies or is completely corrupted.

The F11 feature can look convenient, but it is a pain as it modifies boot records, depends on software installed on the disk itself, etc.

What is the best way to create a USB boot ATI? The CD doesn't seem work for recovering system files. I have tried everything I can think of and have had numerous encounters with support.

What do you mean by "CD doesn't seem work for recovering system files". Once booted, the ATI Rescue Media would be identical whether run from CD or USB flash drive. If you mean that you cannot boot from CD, then be clear about that.

You would create the ATI Rescue Media to USB flash drive using ATI's media builder function, which is the same function used to create it to CD-R.

Also, as your problem is not the same as the original poster, you should have begun a new thread where it may be discussed properly. Otherwise threads become confusing as it won't be clear which user's problem is being addressed
