stick with 9709 or install 9770?

Thread needs solution

Hi. Ive been reading these forums(Acronis?Wilders security) since installing my first build of TIH 2009, and I am pretty confused as to whether I should stick with 9709 or use the new build. I am a bit of a newbie with PCs in general and have found using and trying to understand the program a bit of a headache. First it made my card readers unusable(fixed now), it seems to hang quite regularly, and for some reason when I click off the progress bar when backing up, it disappears and I cannot get it back until I begin another backup.

Can anyone advise someone like myself if I would be better off just sticking with 9709 as opposed to 9770? This is the first time I have used any Acronis products and I am beginning to regret buying the program. I purchased the software after reading lots of reviews and Acronis seemed to tick all the right boxes, wish I had tried a trial first, live and learn.

Having said that I do intend to fully grasp the workings of TIH2009, only I could do with a little advice first. After trawling the info. on the guides, and forums I have to admit I still am unsure as to the 'best' way to install the new build, as I have read in the archives that you can do either an uninstall then install, or install on top. Also can anyone advise me as to whether when in the program you make a disk image to an external hard drive it says 'volume protected' yet when the drive is removed or the program is closed then opened again it warns that one has not been made and I am unprotected. I suppose I am expecting too much for TIH2009 to 'remember' it had created one? Anyone know if this Is this fixed in the 9770 version? I would send a support email but I am generally told just to use latest build. Also has anyone ever recieved an email from Acronis after registering for latest info on builds etc?, because I havent.

Having said the above I do feel a little more secure using Acronis TIH2009, its just that I dont really want to try the new build if it is even buggier. I havent got a gripe with Acronis I just feel confused as to my best course of action regarding lateset build. I am using Vista home premium(32bit) on a q6600 processer

Thanks for reading. And thanks in advance.

The "new" build is actually 9796 dated June 24, 2009.  It solves many problems in earlier builds.  Make an image, install the update, and if  you don't like it, restore your image.  Simple as that.

 Hi twokatmew.

Perhaps I should have stated I am in the UK, the latest build for me(it seems) is the 9770. I have investigated the 9796 and it appears only to be a US build available to US customers.

As 'simple as that', no I do not think so, not for me. I wondered if anyone could give any advice on the topics I raised? Do other users of the product have the same problems as myself? and is the 9770 build buggy as is the 9709?. Here in the UK. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for your reply twokatmew. Although I must admit I didnt find it very helpful.

You might have specified you were in the UK, using the UK version, and I wouldn't have replied.  Still, you're the only one using your machine, and this is imaging software.  If you're not willing to use the software to see if the newer release fixes any problems and risk restoring an image, why bother posting?  Of course my reply wasn't very helpful.  Your original post lacked info and asks others to do your work for you....

Hi twokatmew. Sorry if I offend you, I am a newbie and I was just wondering if anyone had experienced the same problems as myself, and really wanted to know if anyone had found the UK latest build less buggy than the previous one. I have read other postings on 9709/9770 in this and the old forum and was just confused thats all.

As I say I am sorry twokatmew.

Anyone here in the UK who could advise as to if they find the 9770 less buggy? as I have not much experience in these things as you can tell, I thought this was the best place to look. I realise I ask a few different questions but I really would be thankful for any helpful advice. Not asking anyone to do any work for me.
