Stop TI from Starting on Bootup - Windows 8.1

Thread needs solution

- Windows 8.1 64 bit
- Acronis TI 2014

I usually get a warning that a backup has failed because it can't access the file. The file is stored on a disconnected external hard drive. How do I disable TI 2014 from automatically initiating its scans?

Not sure exactly which problem you have.

If the program is trying to run due to a missed backup, you might need to disable the entry here
GH8. How to view or set somewhat hidden advanced scheduled backup settings.

If the program is running a scan for backups at startup, disabling this function could help.
GH41. Control Scan for backup settings.

If a backup task is scheduled to run and will run (and fail), it is best to change the scheduled task to not-scheduled.

GH1. How to change a backup task from scheduled to "Do Not Schedule".
GH2. How to enable a backup task schedule or change a schedule time..
GH3. How to create a non-scheduled backup task on the first try.

Or you can alwasys remove the task from your computer which is attempting to run the failed task.

GH20. Remove Single Task from Task Menu Listing

Hi GroverH,

Thank you for your help. I believe my problem is related to GH41. I don't have any scheduled activities, so that eliminates several options.

I will follow the advice of GH41. If I continue to have problems, I will post a screenshot.

Kevin

Hi,

I looked at GH41 from your suggestion above. My options look slightly different, so I am unable to deselect Search . Please see different-pic.jpg.

I have also attached another file that shows the Event Log from when I logged in this morning. I have several error messages that say "Sync Agent service error. Try to restart your computer." How do I get rid of these errors?

Kevin

Edit: Interestingly, as I look at the event log now in the early evening, the prior errors have disappeared. Instead, I see this something different. Please see event-log2.jpg.

I should also add that sometimes when I am turning off my pc, I get a message to the effect, "Operations are in progress. PC will turn off automatically" or something like that. This message only appeared after I installed Acronis. I'd like to not have all these warning and error messages.

Just now, mid-day, I got another error message from Acronis. I will enclose the jpg file.

I get the sense it is trying to open a file on an external hard drive. I don't even want it to bother checking.

Unless I specifically fire up Acronis TI, I'd like it to stay off completely.

your different-pic.jpg is pointing to the wrong folder. In GH41, look for the 2014 picture, which is about picture 3 which is the link below.

GH41 does not relate to scheduling. When this Scan for Backup options is enabled (bright blue), the program will hunt your storage disks for old backups and list them on the main menu. Disabling the function to stop future scans but the existing listings must be deleted one by one.

Are you using the AcronisSync Agent to sync your data? If you are not using the sync agent, you can ignore the error. I have my sync agent windows service disabled and I get a single line message--which I ignore.

As I also do NOT use the non-stop onlinez9cloud) backup opiton, I also have that windows service disabled. The only windows service for Acroinis that runs in the scheduler.

Referring to post #5, find this error in the log file and try to find out the script ID # or task associated with it.

Have you or are you using valiation as a time other than immediately following a backup or Is validation running as a separate task.

As far as I know, I don't have anything scheduled. I followed your link and disabled the bright blue "Auto-search at startup." Then I went to the "gears" on the right hand side of the image. When I go to "Remove from list" and select "All backups" I am prompted with "Are you sure you want to remove all backups from the list?" (see jpg). I am assuming that if I remove all backups from the list, the list no longer shows my backups; however, any backups I have stored on my hard drives remain? Please discuss or confirm.

I have three drives on my pc, C drive (operating system and software); D drive (data); E drive (media). I store C images on D drive. My data is stored on an external hard drive.

I don't even know what AcronisSync Agent is. So I don't think I am using it.

I am not using any online cloud backup options.

You are referring to the Operations in Progress error. I assume that when this next happens, after I reboot, I should fire up Acronis TI and go the gear in the upper right hand side to examine the log file?

When I create an image of my C drive or a backup of my D and E drives, then I use validation at that time. That is, I create and validate during the same session. I don't even know how to use validation as a separate task. Is there a better approach?

Hi,

This afternoon when I powered off, I got the message:

"Operations are in progress, please wait. The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete."

After five hours, I did a hard reboot. I have no clue what it was doing during those five hours.

It takes less than 5 hours to make an image of my C drive (OS & software). I have several images of my C drive stored on my data drive D. My backups of my D and E drives are stored on an external drive.

I have now disabled the bright blue "Auto-search at startup. Moreover, I have removed all backups from the list, as you instructed.

Am I now safe from being pestered during the day with interruptions about unable to locate a file AND from the "Operations are in progress..." message?

Removing items from the "listing of tasks" will NOT affect the existence of your tib backup files. If none of the tasks are being used for backups, then yes, you can choose to remove all tasks from the list. HOwever, if some tasks are still being used for backup, then you would be better served to only remove the listings individually.

GH19. Remove ALL TASKS from Task Menu Listing

GH20. Remove Single Task from Task Menu Listing

Normally, validation immediately after the task is works best but some prefer to delay the validation until there is more time available. The option to run later exists together with the option to run at backup time.
-----------------------------------

I don't even know what AcronisSync Agent is. So I don't think I am using it.

Without going into a lot of detail, look in the upper right corner of your main Acronis program. If you are NOT using Sync Agent, you should see an person icon with a title which reads "Sign In".
---------------------------------------

Am I now safe from being pestered during the day with interruptions about unable to locate a file AND from the "Operations are in progress..." message?

Not necessarily. You have not established why you are getting the operation in progress message. Did you look at the log file after the last message. The message may have been one from Aconis asking for a user respose. Or, it could have been a Windows message. This type message sometimes appears due to a Windows Power configuration settings. A power setting labelled something like "balanced" or normal or average usually works best to allow the system to work normally. Power settings attempting to get the most performance has been reported as the cause for some. When you encountered last message, had a backup just been completed? If yes, check to make sure you were not using the Acronis shutdown command enabled. If this is the situation, try using a separate shutdown command in a batch file rather than using the Acronis shutdown command. Examples of such can be found in my signature link #1, index item 3-RA.
------------------------------------
Disabling the "Scan for BAckups at startup" will help but not a total cure. The program still has issues which causes this scan to run even with the setting disabled. I am hopeful that the 2015 version will have a fix for this issue so the scan will only run if the setting is enabled.

Hi GroverH,

Thank you for your help.

I am not using the SyncAgent. So that issue is out.

Also, I checked the log file for anything after the 18th, when I had my Operations in Progress message. There's nothing, except for SyncAgent errors for today. Because I am not using SyncAgent, I can safely ignore those.

Yes, I am using "High Performance" power setting. However, I did not do any backups that day. Moreover, I always use "High Performance" and rarely get this message. When I do backups, I do ask Acronis to shutdown and it has always shutdown properly. My last backup was over a month ago, so there should be no lingering effects. (And, yes, I know, another backup is warranted.)

I look forward to any further comments or suggestions you might have. Otherwise, I will keep my fingers crossed that we have eliminated most demons.

Kevin

This is a duplicate post from a similar thread. Because this post applies to both threads, I have provided it in both locations. Both posts discuss "Operations in Progress ...." The prior thread is a more generic thread, and this thread is specific to my situation.

Prior Post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/45058?page=1#comment-191888

This duplicate post follows directly from the conversation in this thread with GroverH.

I understand that duplicate posts are frowned upon. However, I think an exception is warranted in this situation.

=======

For everyone's benefit, here's what I have done so far. I had disabled validation and removed all tasks.

Please see: 2014-08-12_Acronis1.jpg

Although I thought all tasks were removed, some still existed.

If you have a similar situation, I suggest downloading Acronis Scheduler Manager https://kb.acronis.com/content/1859
and run the following commands:

get list (to check if there are any tasks left)
task zap (to delete all existing tasks)

I believe our troubles with "Operations in Progress ..." will disappear with ATI 2015.

I hope this information helps folks.
