Strategy for maintaining a clean backup

Thread needs solution
  • I use Acronis IT 2015. My system disk is a Solid State Drive and I use Acronis to backup the partition to a local mechanical hard drive.

I have just loaded Windows 10 on my computer and it is in a clean state, without viruses or malware. I would like to create a partition backup that is updated periodically but, I concerned that the OS can become corrupted over time or and will contaminate the backup. I would like have 1) a clean uncorrupted OS backup and 2) a backup that is periodically updated to include all my changes. Can you suggest a backup scheme to do this?

Hi John,

basic guidelines on how to decide where to store your backups you can find in this article: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2015/index.html#2…

Storing backups on the internal non-system drive is a relatively safe option, but it always recommended having at least two backup copies.

As for backup scheme, if you want to have on full backup and then to save only changes, you can select incremental or differential backup scheme:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2015/index.html#1…

Please note, that chain of differential or incremental backups should be very long, it is always recommended to create a new full backup once in a while. Please consider creating a custom backup scheme with the following option: Create a full version after every [n] incremental/differential versions.

Thank you,
