Switching from Windows 7 32 to 64 - best type of back up?

Thread needs solution

I'm switching my Windows 7 32 bit to the 64 bit version. I need to do a clean install to do this. I'd like to avoid reinstalling all of my programs. I'm using True Image 2010. Which is the best type of back up to use?

Lorren:

You can't avoid reinstalling all of your programs. Sorry, but this is unavoidable.

The best type of backup is to make a full image of your existing 32-bit Win 7 installation in case you want to go back to it some day. Additionally, you can mount the backup after you get the 64-bit Windows 7 install finished and TI 2010 reinstalled. You can then extract any of your user files from the mounted image.

You may want to investigate the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to help make the transition easier.
