Sync or Nonstop Backup for folder mirroring?

Thread needs solution

Can anyone advise me on the preferred backup method?

What I need to have is the mirror of some selected folders from my HDD to my NAS. I see I have two similar ways to do so using ATI - either create a folder sync connection or create a non-stop backup job.

I've created test backup jobs using both methods and in fact the only difference I see is that sync method creates exact mirror of files while nonstop backup creates normal ATI archive file + later it creates more files that at some point in time are consolidated.

The major difference I see is that I need to manually restore the synced folder when needed while I can use ATI to restore it while using nonstop backup. I like the concept of having a single "real" backup file instead of just a files copy on a separate drive but I have some doubts.

What I don't see is an option to control number of weekly nonstop backups and the help file says "Acronis True Image 2014 will keep daily backups for the last 30 days and weekly backups until all Nonstop Backup data destination space is used". Thus I'm afraid I will end up with a huge number of sub-backups and I will lose any orientation in it... There's some sort of a cleanup option but honestly it looks to me like by deleting older backup files/versions I delete some of my "real" files as well. Is there such a risk?

The other thing is I can't find any option to predefine space intended for my backups - is it possible?

What if I don't want previous files versions and I only need the latest versions? Wouldn't then any "regular" backup be better to use?

Many thanks in advance!
