Sync problem: "There are no participants online."

I have a folder of photos on computer A that I am trying to sync with computer B: both running True Image 2013 on Windows 8 Pro. Both computers are connected to a switch that is also connected to my router. This is a setup that worked with True Image 2012 and Windows 7. This time I also have a nonstop backup to an external drive running on A that includes this folder of photos.

When I try to run the sync, A reports "There are no participants online: and B reports "Error while transferring data between computers. Check your internet connection" Event code: 0x019A4E36+0x0191000D and then the same first message.

If I place a file in the default sync folder then that syncs correctly with the cloud and other computer.

I have tried running the program as administrator on both machines but the result is the same.

Perhaps there is some firewall setting I am missing?

Have you tried sending computer B an email invite link, does that work?

Do you ahve another Windows 7 machine to try, it might be as you suggest a networking/Windows Firewall difference between a W7 and a W8 PC.
