System Volume Information files use all 1TB memory on C-drive
I just found out that my Acronis True Image 2015 uses over 750 GB on my 1TB drive under a folder in the c-directory called System Volume Information.
All the backups themseleves appear on the external drives mostly WD Passport drives where I send my backups.
Even tho all my backups are always done to a EXTERNAL DRIVE (and that's where I find them) why do these appear in the c-drive? They vary from about 50gb down to 10gb. There's a total of 42 files.
How do I fix this and how do I keep this stuff off of the c-drive?

Do a google search for
system volume information folder
This folder contains the Windows System Restore points
Read some of the google links.

GroverH,
You were right, they were system restore points. Somehow it was set at 100% capacity which is why it filled up the c-drive. I don't know why I associated it with Acronis. I lowered it to 20% to see what would happen and I got back 650gb free.
What % should the setting be?
Also, can you explain why the restore points vary so wildly in size from 1 to the next, ie 50gb, 10gb, 40b, 1gb? Do they only contain what has changed since the last restore>
Much thanks for your great reply.

If you do regular disk backups, the use of System REstore points is redundant. Many (including myselft) have System Restore points turned completely off on all drives.
Regular backups enable you to do restores from your tib backups.
The folder in question can also be excluded within the backups if you wish to continue making res tore points.
