Target Clone Destination USB HDD GREYED OUT
Hi, new Acronis TI 2013 user here, software purchased with sole intention of cloning Vista OS and data disc to larger replacement internal HDD for Toshiba laptop, currently 250GB.
All goes real nice until I get to selecting "Destination Disc" at which point the previously visible external Momentus XT 750 Seagate (brand new, hooked up via powered USB HDD docking station) goes GREY and inaccessible.
HUH?
Happens the same in Manual as in Automatic. I can't believe I have come up against a Miscrsoft control, and hope that Acronis users somewhere can get me thru this.
FYI: The Toshiba OS is OEM software and I have no recovery discs...

Thanks for the suggestion, shadowsports: much appreciated.
Misunderstanding here, I suspect.
It's not the disc which is USB: this is just a plain bald HDD, with no usb connection. It's the dock (not really a hub) which is the thing that provides both the power and the USB connections to this humble naked disc, and thus kinda essential to the process.
I am doing a workaround based on advice from Tuttle:
Don't Clone. Do a full disk mode backup (in which all partitions are included) to an external HD.
Then remove the OS HD and replace it with your new drive.
Then boot from the Acronis Recovery Media (either on CD or USB flash drive), and restore the backup image to the new drive.
If the new drive is a different size from the old one, you'll need to adjust partition sizes.
See Acronis documents and Grover's tutorials in the left margin of this forum.
Fingers crossed in this...
