target disk for disk clone is greyed out
Hi There,
I am attempting to clone an older, data disk which is 8tb to a new, (empty) hard drive which is 6tb. When I try to do the clone, the 6tb disk which I want to be the target is greyed out. Can anyone tell me why this is?
THanks,
Sean

Hi There,
Thanks for your help. The 8tb drive is about half used, and half free. so there is plenty of space on the 6tb target drive. After running for two days, the clone finally failed. I'll attach the log. The drive is formatted as GPT.
Cheers,
Sean

Sean, thanks for the log data, this just shows the following error message:
id=1; date/time=29/11/2016 02:29:23; message=Operation Clone Disk started.
...
id=55; date/time=29/11/2016 02:29:30; message=Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 7 'Disk is not found, please check that all the hard disks are attached to your computer';
The total time taken for the clone is shown as just 8 seconds, which doesn't match your comments above that it took 2 days to fail.
How are you performing this clone operation, and perhaps more relevant, why are you using clone to migrate your data from your 8TB drive to the new 6TB drive?
Clone is primarily used for migrating the OS rather than just moving data, so is probably not the best tool to use here other than allowing you to try to migrate the data without the use of an intermediate stage such as a backup drive. Cloning is normally recommended to be performed using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media because of it use in moving the OS.
In this instance, if you are looking to move pure data (i.e. no installed programs / applications with locked files) from the 8TB drive to the new one, then you could simply use Windows Explorer and copy the data across, or use Acronis to make a Backup of the data in Files & Folders mode (to a temporary storage place) then Restore this to the new drive. There are also free file / folder synchronisation programs available that you could use to do the same.
