Task Manager Gone After ATI Home 2011 Update
I was using the Task Manager to execute a backup strategy consisting of a daily full image backup to an external drive. Each of the 7 full disk image backups were named for each day of the week. Using this strategy, only one full disk image backup every 24 hours was necessary to provide me with a rolling 7 days of full image backups. I did this to provide myself with options in case of significant OS or disk corruption being incorporated into a backup. In that case, I reasoned I could go back another day or so and access a full image backup that was done prior to any corruption.
Then, I dutifully updated Acronis True Image Home 2011 and Plus Pack 2011 when it was made available. To my great surprise, the changes to the product are significant. Now I can not find the Task Manager and I can not figure out how to reconstitute my former backup strategy. I am not sure there is any way to do it. I tried using the Scheduler but it's much less flexible than before the Update.
I am running an HP Pavilion dv6t-3100 CTO notebook. My notebook has an i5 M460 dual core processor and 8GB RAM using Win 7 SP1 Home Premium.
Any advice will be deeply appreciated!

I read the instructions for validating an existing backup. When I follow the instructions by clicking on "Operations" then "More..." there is no option for Validation. Is this because I include validation as part of the backup settings? Or, am I missing something?

Thanks for the suggestion. Please confirm that will provide me with 7 full disk backups; one for each day of the week. ALSO, will I be able to name these backups, one for each day of the week or will I just have to go by created date?
Thanks again!

Mikeyr,
Yes, it should give you 7 full disk backups. I know some users have had issues with auto cleaning and full backups, so you have to try on your system.
The naming scheme will be the same for each day. You set it up when you set up the task. You can add a @date@ tag, or just rely on the file system time stamps.

Thank you, Pat. If you get some time, I still need a reply to my comment #3 regarding Validation. Thanks again, Mike

Validation is directly under operations: click the operations blue link, validation is item #3, I believe.
You can also right click on a TIB file, choose archives and then validate.

Thank you, Pat. Now, if we can get the dev team to restore the ability to create and manage Tasks as done in v.11, I will be a much happier customer as I was until v.2011. Just saying.

I know. Many users from previous versions don't like the 2011 way. I have to say I was just the opposite. I found the 2010 version confusing and I like the simplicity of 2011. Your mileage will vary :-) I just wish there were fewer glaring bugs.

Hi Pat, IMHO, simplicity is one thing...when it's achieved by dumbing down software, it's quite another. I understand your perception that 2011 has simplicity, but simplicity at the cost of functionality is not an upgrade. BTW, I never used 2010; I used ATI Home 11, so I can't comment on 2010. The glaring bugs you mentioned are another matter as is the loss of Tasks functionality.
I came to 2011 by way of being seduced from Acronis True Image Home 11 via an "upgrade" to Acronis True Image Home 2011 with Plus Pack. Like many other users, I had no idea just how fundamentally changed v.2011 would be over v.11. My "...mileage might vary" is not appropriate as I had no idea what I was getting myself into by "upgrading."
I not alone in my feelings that the loss of the Tasks functionality has resulted in a loss of user control over the program. I paid a license fee for software that would do what I want it to do; not software that requires me to do things the way it wants me to. I was promised an "intuitive interface" and now I have an interface that is significantly less intuitive. The user interface in 2011 is far more opaque than ATI Home 11. I'm also appalled that Acronis has issued a new version with the bugs you mentioned. After all, we didn't pay to become beta testers, did we?
But enough of my complaining...the issue I raised has still not been addressed. I either need to know when I can expect an update to 2011 that restores the former Tasks functionality or I need to know how to revert to ATI Home 11.
Thanks again, Pat.

I know I've seen Validation by right clicking on Operations but it is gone. I then tried clicking on My Backups, Explore Backups and a new item appeared called Disk Archives (5). I was able to validate it even though I have no idea what it is. What to do?

Not exactly. Click on the blue link "operations". You should see a menu.

Can you post a screenshot of your backup list, and maybe a screen shot of the directory where your backups are? We'll figure it out.

I was clicking on the blue link, Operations.
I attached a screenshot as a j-peg. Hope that works. My backups are in the Acronis Secure Zone, although I'm considering going back to my 250GB external drive...your thoughts?

Well, it is strange that you don't see the validation option in the operations menu. I stopped using the ASZ so I cannot test it, but I didn't recall it was not possible to validate within the ASZ. This would be surprising,, maybe a bug?
Can you validate from the Windows Explorer menu of the ASZ?
If you don't have a good reason to use the ASZ, don't use it. It provides some protection to backups, but it is not flexible. Of course, for folks with laptops who need to backup on the go, it is a good option. I'd recommend you backup to your external drive and that, from time to time, you copy your last full to some other drive that is less often connected to the computer, and that you take to the office. This is to diversify risk. BTW, when you copy an archive, validate the copy afterwards.
From the looks of it, there is a TIB file in the ASZ that is not attached to any active task. This is not a problem per se. It might be a TIB left by a previous version of ATI, or a TIB attached to a task that you removed from ATI and that was added back to the list after you validated it or browsed to it using ATI. You can click Operations > remove to take it out of the list.
