Is there really a need to do data backups if you are doing disk backups?

Thread needs solution

It just seems like wasted space to me if you can mount the disk backup and copy the data file from your disk backup. Let me know if I am missing something here. Currently I am doing both.

Strictly speaking the answer is no. However it is a good idea to make a separate data backup as this not only gives you some redundancy as far as your data is concerned, but also means if you just need to restore data rather than the OS and programs, you can do this more quickly.
