ti 10: XP installed in IDE Mode: Can't find disks
Both ti 10 and dd 11 can't see hard drives when BIOS is set to IDE mode, which was a necessity when installing XP on an Asus p8p67. AHCI mode is not possible on this board.
Resetting the BIOS to AHCI mode allows ti to find disks.
Any thoughts about how to get ti and dd to see disks in ide mode would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I've got XP successfully installed in IDE mode. XP won't install in AHCI mode on the Asus p8p67, even when slipstreaming the SATA drivers onto an XP CD, or when hitting F6 to load them during the beginning of the install.
I have ati 10 and dd 11 on a bootable usb stick which is the way I've always used them.
When booting from what I call my Acronis USB stick, neither ti nor dd can find the hard drives, **unless** I switch the BIOS back into AHCI mode.
If I leave the BIOS in IDE mode they fail to find any drives, including dd not finding the USB stick that it's installed on and booting from.
I suspect you're suggesting I install both ti and dd on XP to check if they will then see the disks.
Good idea.
I'll test it tomorrow and report back.
Thank you!

Thank you for clarifying. When you say you have ti10, are talking about 2010 or v10?
You might be able to see the drives if you install in Windows, but you still need to have a recovery CD that sees your disk, or you might be in trouble if your disk is KO.
You have a linux driver issue with your Acronis USB stick. If you have 2010, you should download from your Acronis account the latest bootable media ISO and try it.

Hi,
Yes. 2010.
I'll DL the latest ISO and try it tomorrow.

Update:
I've downloaded the latest ISO for both DD 11 and ti 2010 burned them to CD and the results are the same,
so I have to assume that it's an issue with my motherboard.
If you have any other thoughts I'd like to hear them but if not I'll just deal with my work around.
Thanks!

Steve:
I also have a P8P67 mobo in IDE mode and had a similar problem booting from the various bootable cd. TI2010 and DD11 were both fine from Win7 and XP Home.
It looks as if my issue was a lack of linux drivers for the TI2010/DD11 bootable recovery media rather than the mobo, BIOS or other components.
I overcame this problem by building a WinPE disk. I built the iso from Win7 and that uses the Win7 drivers. I have never built WinPE from XP so I do not have any ideas to help there.
Building the DD11 WinPE environment is made easier 'cos DD11 has the WinPE plugin available as part of the standard install.
TI2010, however, needs the PlusPack. Sadly, since TIH2011 is the current version you may not even be able to buy PlusPack for TIH2010.
If it helps, these 2 posts offer some pointers with the WinPE build process:

I successfully used the method shown in comment-48878
Another TIH2010 user had a similar problem and solved it with TIH2011 (without PlusPack) and that appeared to have the drivers for the linux recovery cd. That user's experience is shown in this post:

The WinPE environment would seem to be the way to go if you can find TIH2010 PlusPack. Otherwise it looks like an upgrade to TI2011 and a WinPE disk with DD11.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Try the 2011 version first to see if that solves your driver issue.
Contact Acronis support if your recovery CD doesn't work right. They should be able to give you the right resources to fix it.

Hi Mike,
This is very encouraging. I've got a Win7 machine I can use to do the WinPE build, so I'll gt to it as soon as I can and report back.
It may be a day or 2 but I will try it.
Thank you!

Remember you need the Plus Pack to create the WinPE environment...

Acronis only supports my products, for 30 days after purchase.
I did contact them first but the only thing they would tell me is I'm out of the support ( 30 day time limit ) boundary.
I'm very reluctant to buy from a company that only supports for 30 days, even though the members of this forum are excellent in all ways, but I'll consider it.
Thanks!

From http://forum.acronis.com/forum/18623, paragraph 5, support for recovery should be included. Maybe I misunderstood or your case doesn't qualify... Weird.
Otherwise, you can try to build a BartPE-based environment (you will need the XP installation CD/DVD), or, with the Plus Pack, a WinPE-based recovery CD.

I didn't define it as a recovery issue, but even so, I don't think they're going to be as slick as your suggestions.
Plus Pack: Would that be the "BartPE & SafeMedia" download named: TrueImage2010Addons_s_en.exe ?
If so, I've got it. I just haven't installed it yet.
Thanks!

The BartPE and safemedia is a free add-on. You might get by with the BartPE.
The WinPE comes with the paid-for Plus Pack.

Update:
Using True Image 2010 Home "Safe Version" ( NOT the Full Version ) from the final build, is able to see my disks in IDE mode.
I created a boot-able USB and it works.
Disk Director 11 is still not able to see any disks, other than the USB stick it is booting from.
I'll be attempting a PE soon to see if that solves the problem.
