TI 11 hangs early in backup

Thread needs solution

I am running True Image 11 on Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2. It has previously made a backup of C: partition onto G: partition for me no problem (in August). However now when I try to do the same backup (full not incremental or differential) it gets part way through and hangs. It's variable when, but always in the first few minutes.

Progress never indicates more than 0%. Progress stays on same file path for hours. No advancing on progress bars. Logs show partiton locks and it begins creating, but nothing else. It also appears to have problems cancelling the process properly after I give up, as the status bar icon continues to have a circling arrow for some time.

Chkdsk c: is fine. I downloaded and installed the latest build 8101 over previous build 8053. Disabled Diskeeper 2010 and Bullguard Internet Security 8.7. No improvement.

Any ideas here? Thanks.
Matthew

Until you reach a resolution, boot from the Rescue CD and perform your backups from there. You need also to know that your CD will validate our backups archives anyway and validation can be auto done afterward as part of the backup.

Hello,

GroverH, thank you very much for your suggestion, you're absolutely correct.

Matthew, I'll do my best to help you.

Because of the latest major changes in Windows Vista native snapshot driver (VolSnap). The Acronis native snapshot driver (snapman) was moved from UpperFilters to LowerFilters to avoid conflicts with VolSnap (which could have lead to backups failure or data corruption in backups). This change may sometimes manifest itself in a freezing Windows Vista operating system.

To solve the issue, install a special driver update with fixes on the machine:

  • Download SnapAPI Build 503;
  • Unpack it and install with Disabled logging:

  • Reboot the machine and check if the issue still persists.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
