TI 11.0 and 2010 coexistence

Thread needs solution

Can both be installed on one PC without code from one (drivers?) overwriting the other?
Reason for the question is that a colleague who has installed 2010 on her PC does not have a CD R/W drive, only a CD-ROM drive. She bought 2010 via a download from Acronis and has the 2010 installable .exe file saved on a USB stick. She has asked me to create a standalone recovery CD for her using this 2010. I use TI 11.0 on my PC, but I don't want to screw it up by temporarily installing a 2010 to burn a recovery CD!

Do not do it. Instead ask her to create recovery cd ('bootable media') saved to .iso file instead of burning it to cd drive, and then burn the CD with this .iso file. You may use cdrecord.exe from the trueimage installation to do it.

On her PC, open TI and choose the Create Bootable Media option.
Then make your selections and instead of burning a CD, choose the option to create an iso file.

After the file is created, then you can copy the file to a flash drive and take it to your computer and then burn the iso file onto a normal CD.

Most likely, your CD burner such as Roxio or Nero has that capability but if not, you can download a free program such as ImgBurn which can burn the iso onto the CD. This will produce a StandAlone Rescue CD which will be the same as if made on her machine.

Remember, the CD is not machine specific and is generic anyway using Linux drivers.

Thanks to both. A good safe workaround!
It raises another question: if I am running 2010 but have a set of backups taken using a version of TI (TI 11?) which cannot be used for restoration by 2010 because it is too back-release, there would (?) be no obvious way to restore anything apart from:
- de-installing 2010 and reinstalling the older TI version
or
- doing a standalone restore using the 'older' recovery CD
Or am I missing a trick?

Use the 2010 and validate the v11 backup file. There is a good chance that 2010 can actually restore the older backup.

If you are only looking for certain specific files, you can right click on the *.tib file and choose the explore option. Browse to the desired file and drag the file from the backup to another location of your choice.
