TI 2009 Backup Problem

Thread needs solution
You can’t execute a backup on demand. You have to schedule one and then when you select the box that says, “Run backup now” and hit Proceed it will work. If you don’t do that – when you select that box and hit Proceed it will sit there… doing nothing. And when you check it will say “Idle.” And you can hit “Start” as many times as you feel like straining your finger… but it ain’t gonna happen.

After jacking TI around all morning I also noticed something else. Why are there 50 ways to do the same thing in this program including the right click. It’s cluttered and bogged down with redundancy - with even more emphasis on your insistence upon “Scheduling.”

So now in addition to the annoying yellow banner on computers running TI11… I can add this new step for version 2009 of setting the date and time for a bogus schedule that I am NEVER GOING TO USE so I can get to the final screen – hit Proceed and finally get the backup I want, they way I want, in the “RIGHT NOW” that I want.

I hate this version. (I could downgrade but I am no novice and know the horrors of a downgrade. So I will live with it… and I will think of you every time I take the extra steps to run a backup – and not in a good way.)

I downgraded back to TI11.  The backup time was the same (off by 2 minutes - basically the same.)  Although 2009 is visually "pretty" there is too much noise and chaos to prioritize and determine what is really relevant.  You need to tone it down...  less would be more in this case.

Standard marketing procedure ... add more bells and whistles to sell more.

I think if you use the rescue CD there isn't that annoyance you describe - but I could be wrong.  Anyway it doesn't matter now as you're back to ver 11.

Sand:

You state that with TI-2009: "You can’t execute a backup on demand. You have to schedule one and then when you select the box that says, “Run backup now” and hit Proceed it will work. If you don’t do that – when you select that box and hit Proceed it will sit there… doing nothing. And when you check it will say “Idle.” And you can hit “Start” as many times as you feel like straining your finger… but it ain’t gonna happen."

Every one of my TI-2009 backups have been "on demand". I have never scheduled a backup. Most of my backups are done from Win XP pro sp3 but a few were done from the TI-2009 boot CD.

I have only done full image backups, if that makes any difference.

If I select the first option - manual backup it won't run for some reaon... even with the "Run backup now" selected and hitting Proceed.  It says it should in the instructions.  I don't know why it doesn't... but no worries - I have 11 back.  Really, I was also disappointed that the speed wasn't better.  Restoring was faster - but backing up was the same.

I want Windows 7 when it comes out - does anybody know what version of TI will work on Windows 7?

Thanks for your replies!

Sandy

The Sand,

What build of 2009 are you using?

Help menu containing the about and with build number should appear if you hold down on the Alt key.

Have you considered setting up a desktop shortcut to run the backup at your discretion?

Hi Grover… it’s good to hear from you and DwnNdrty – glad to know you are both still around. I uninstalled 2009 so I don’t know the build.  The problem of not being able to execute a backup without scheduling it first along with the fact the backup speed was the same (not faster as I had expected) made me downgrade back. I didn’t trouble shoot the issue since I wasn’t thrilled with it and I know TI11 works.

I do want Windows 7 which is coming… so it looks like I will have to purchase the new 2010 when the time comes (I don’t believe 11 will work on that.) I have TI 10, 11, Disk Director Suite and for a trial period Echo Workstation (couldn’t get it to run.) The recent 2009 was the only program from Acronis that I did not like. I hope I like 2010 better.
