TI 2010 backup time way off, max compression not very good

Thread needs solution

Just tried my first TI Home 2010 backup of a directory structure as data using maximum compression level. The directories under my \downloads folder to be backed up show 24.2gb under Windows 7.
Problem 1: After creating the backup file, it only gets reduced to 21.5gb. I expected it to be much smaller then this using maximum compression.
Problem 2: During the backup the time for the backup comtinues to switch from 2:00 to 1:41, back to 2.0, back to 1:40, finally to 43 minutes and after completing I look at the log file and it actually took 27 minutes. However, I think 27 minutes is way too long to backup only 24gb to a disk.
Im running an AMD 6400+ x2 Black 3.2gh with 4gb of memory. It's not slow.
What's wrong or is this just the way TI 2010 works?

Is this forum dead?
Why have a forum if Acronis never answers any questions.
Great idea, write some crapie software, sell it to dummys who expect it to work, provide no technical support, have a forum that's dead, on and on and on..............

Note that downloaded files are usually already compressed as much as possible, TI can't get any more from a compressed file.

Use normal compression and it will be much faster, I get 3+ GB per minute on a slower pc. My last image backup was 37GB which became a 19GB TIB file in 5 minutes, this was with normal compression between two internal sata drives. This was my C: drive which includes Win 7 and installed programs only.

Best bet: Do not use TI to backup downloaded files or data files, use a "copy" program such as Karen's Replicator (freeware). It is a slick program. That way you can run the files from your backup rather than having to decode them out of TI's TIB format.

Save TI for making backup images of your Windows partition and installed programs. These cannot simply be copied. Don't make disk clones, use an external hard drive to put several drive images on.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Acronis True Image Home supports the following compression levels: - Normal (Recommended to most tasks. Archive size is 55 percent less than initial data size (approx, real value may vary) and the process takes minimal time)- High (Archive size is 60 percent less than initial data size and the process takes 70% longer (approx, real values may vary)- Maximum (Archive size is 65 percent less than initial data size and the process takes at least twice longer (approx, real values may vary).

You should take into account that the data compression ratio depends on the type of files stored in the archive, for example, even the Maximum compression will not significantly reduce the backup size if it contains files with already compressed data like .jpg, .pdf or .mp3. It does not make any sense to select the Maximum compression for such files because in this case the backup operation will take significantly longer and you will not get an appreciable reduction of backup size.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

I wondered about this, since I could not figure out why a 45GB Acronis Secure Zone did not handle a 59GB amount of hard drive backup.

I have TI Home 10.

I created a new area for backups of 90GB and did a "High" compression level backup of that 59GB and the result was a 45.6 GB compressed backup, or roughly in the neighborhood of 77% of the original size.
