TI 2010 has stopped performing image backups

Thread needs solution

I have been running TrueImage 2010 satisfactorily on Windows 7 64 bit for some weeks. I did

not use it for a couple of weeks, and when I next used it I found it would no longer perform image backups as described below. During that period I had installed Microsoft Visio, and Windows had performed a number of updates - without my consent!

Backing up the C partition of a disk with 4 partitions: The backup task starts and proceeds to do nothing except to consume more and more memory over a period of 1 or 2 minutes. See graph 1. It appears that the TrueImageHome service is the culprit (see graph 2). The progress bar shows no progress (see graph 3). Eventually the memory use drops back to its startup level (see graph 4), the backup task reports it has completed satisfactorily, but no file has been created.

I have uninstalled and re-installed TI 2010 a number of times and it is still the same. I notice that after un-install, there are still 43 keys in the Registry that contain Acronis. Can I safely delete these? Is there a manual un-install procedure to completely remove all reference to TrueImage prior to a re-install?

I hope someone can help, as I can no longer use this product. Apart from not being able to make new image backups, I cannot restore previous backups.

Geoffrey:

Your comments about Windows Update reminded me of the huge thread here:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/5475 Perhaps your problem is related to this one.

While the thread contains a lot of posts, the upshot is that when Microsoft released a recent Windows Update, it broke the Windows drivers used by Acronis. They are working on an update for TI 2010 now, but there is an interim workaround discussed in the thread. Look at reply #220 for an explanation from Acronis Support. Somewhere in this thread is another reply from Acronis Support with instructions on how to download a new Windows Driver (SnapAPI file).

Finally, the boot CD should always work; it doesn't depend on Windows drivers. You should be able to restore from the boot CD (and back up, for that matter). This may tide you over until they get it fixed.

Mark,

Thanks for your swift reply. Yes, it does look very similar and I think the timing is just about right. I was considering reverting to an earlier 2010 image backup I made on 18 November using the boot CD. I have used the CD for a previous successful 'test' restore, but I was concerned it would not work following the failure of the Windows based 2010 TrueImage. So your comment re using the Boot CD is encouraging. I will wait a little longer for a resolution of the problem. If things go wrong, I can always afford to go back to that 18 November image.

Thanks again,

Geoff

Hello Geoff,

I am familiar with the issue you are experiencing and will do everything possible from my side to provide you with the complete resolution. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response. If you haven't recovered the archive yet, please do the following to resolve the issue:

1) Please make sure that Acronis Scheduler2 Service (Start -> Run -> type services.msc) Startup Type is set to Automatic. Otherwise, please set it to Automatic yourself and reboot your computer.

If the issue persists, please re-start Acronis scheduler, it appears that the scheduler service has been installed improperly.

- Download a special Acronis utility;
- Start the Command Prompt from Start -> Programs -> Accessories menu;
- Run the following commands in the folder you saved the file to:

schedmgr task zap
schedmgr service stop
schedmgr service uninstall
schedmgr service install
schedmgr service start

This should delete all Acronis tasks on the PC. You should manage your tasks from the scratch. Manage a new task and see if this solves the issue.

Otherwise, please reinstall the program in the following way:

1) Please uninstall the program using  Acronis Cleanup utility. Reboot the computer.

2) Download SnapAPI Build 503; Unpack it and install with Disabled logging.

Reboot the computer again.

3) Install Acronis True Image Home 2010 from the scratch. You can learn more on how to download the installation file in this article. Reboot the computer to complete the changes and see if the issue remains.

If the issue still persists, please collect the below information and attach to your next post:

1) Please use the Userdump.exe tool to generate a dump file.

2) - Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;

- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";
- Send us the saved file.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

Anyway, please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Mark,

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
