TI-2010 & Linux Helena/ Vista dual boot

Thread needs solution

Hello All, Several questions .... 1. Can TI2010 backup a Linux system (Helena) without doing a sector by sector "backup" i receive a message that the HD is damaged and can only do the sector by sector ?( I know that the HD is fine as it was in use before i loaded Linux) 2. Can TI be "installed"on the Linux system? 3. TI "see's" the Linux HD but there are no drive identities other than "drive #3". Is this normal? Thanks in advance Regards Fred

TI 2010 doesn't (and probably won't ever) support Ext4 partitions (I assume that's what's being used). If you can setup the partitions as Ext3, TI should be able to do normal "used sectors" backups.

As far as I know, you can't install TI Home versions into Linux.

Not sure what you mean by drive identities. When I look at my Ubuntu 9.10 drive, it shows "Disk 1" and the partitions (Ext3 (Unlabeled) and Linux Swap (Unlabeled)). It's not Ext3, though.

MudCrab,
Hello, thank you for your response. I do not know what "Ext3 or Ext4" partitions are could you Explain ? and how would you change from one to the other? regards Fred

Ext3 and Ext4 and Linux partitions formats (like FAT32 and NTFS for Windows partitions). Most newer Linux installations use Ext4 by default. Slightly older versions used Ext3. As far as I know, Ext4 support is planned for TI 2011 (see this KB article).

Normally, one would setup the Ext3 formatted partitions prior to installing Linux and select them manually. Or, if given a choice during installation, select Ext3. I don't think there is a direct conversion from Ext4 to Ext3.

MudCrab,
Thank you for the explanation ,and the link ..... guess i'll have to wait until v2011 . Regards Fred
