TI 2010 Recovery strategy advices

Thread needs solution

Hello everybody, novice here.

I'm a True Image Home 2010 user since last year and unfortunately the first time of real need of this software has come.

Here's the situation: damaged hard disk with two partitions, system and documents. System partition data corrupted.

I've a backup copy of the system partition and I'm in the process of acquiring a new hard disk, exactly the same model of the damaged one.

I think things should be as easy as:

  • Backup on external usb disk document partition from bootable rescue media
  • Restore system partition on the new drive
  • Restore documents partition on the new drive

I'd like to have feedbacks on this strategy from expert users, as this is my very first time. Could there be any complications? Do you have advice or useful tips? I'd appreciate very much a step by step guide for dummies.

Thank you very much

No complication. This is a very straight forward case. You could go for a larger/faster disk if you wanted to.

Make sure you have backed up all the partitions on the original disk. Sometimes there is a hidden system reserved partition (Win7), some other recovery/OEM partition. YOu can back them up from the recovery CD as well.

You got the procedure right.

Your new disk need to be in place in the computer at the same spot as the old one. Remove the old one completely. You will be able to put it back in once the restore is complete and you have booted on your new disk.

One of your partitions is currently active. When you restore it, make sure that you mark the restored partition active as well.
Restore each partition at a time, in the same order they were laid out on the previous disk. No need to reboot in between. You can resize any partition except any hidden one.

With the last partition, restore the MBR+Track0 and the disk signature.
