TI 2011 non stop can't find fles

Thread needs solution

I am new to using the nonstop backup feature and it appears to be doing what it is supposed to do and I can explore the backups using Acronis features. However, if I want to see the files where they are supposed to be stored, that folder is empty. Acronis tells me that they are stored in E:\MyBackups but that folder is empty even though the backup program shows me the history. Can anyone help me understand what I am missing, please? Thanks!!!!

The non stop backup files are in a hidden folder called "time explorer storage". Inside this folder, you will see another hidden folder with a name that looks like a digital key. Inside this folder, you will all the non stop backu files (a tib file, some xml files and several CDP files).

In explorer, choose to see hidden files in "folder and search options"

Dear Pat:

Thanks very much for your help. Now I can find them and understand what is going on.

Apologies for bumping an old thread. The continuous backup part of my TI-2011 sometimes runs OK, other times pauses, and now it's (I think) corrupt. There are files in the time explorer stoage folder, but there's no backup listed in the program's main interface. I can navigate to this folder and see the file "A027380B-4485-4e11-8ED3-7623DDBC4544.tib", but it's a zero-byte file. When I try and import it into TI, the program shuts itself down. When I try and "build" a new continuous backup, it seems to hang on "estimated backup size: calculating..." What's the problem?

OK, I ended up deleting my corrupt non-stop backup, doing a reinstall/repair, and now "non-stop" shows up in the list. I can select the files/folders I want to back up and it does them. But! After it finishes, non-stop shuts down. It used to stay loaded all the time with a little icon in the taskbar clock area, but no more. If I want to back up my non-stop stuff, I have to do it manually from the TI interface by clicking the start button (it's always paused). Also, there is no ".tib" file in the time explorer folder ? ? ?

I have purchased 2016, but hate the interface. I will keep 2011 as long as possible...

Not sure why I ever expect an answer in here, have never got one yet!

Got nonstop to run overnight, but this am, while I was watching, it paused for no reason and would not "unpause". Found the service for nonstop backup was not started even though it was in "automatic" mode. Why would this be? What would make it stop for no apparent reason?

What OS are you using?

Non stop backup has had issues of stopping over the years and ATI/Windows versions. Still the case with 2016/Windows 7 and later. It is unclear from these forums how common the problem is, since we see only people with issues here.

NSB is iffy, rigid and obscure for the user. The way I look at it is that I want my backups to be reliable, period. So I typically recommend against using or troubleshooting NSB. With a regular TIB file, at least you have a chance of being able to open the TIB files with the Acronis Windows file filters and copy content out. This might even work when the archive is deemed corrupted during a restore procedure (although the chances are slim here). With NSB you cannot open the archive file, it is completely managed by the application. Also, when your backup is too big for your backup disk, NSB will stop and you might have trouble deleting older versions with 2011 and you won't be able to do anything with 2016 axcept deleting the backup, or removing the backup fromt he app and creating new one on another disk.

If you decide to continue using NSB, make sure you have redundant backups. As usual, if your ATI backup contains irreplaceable files (files that you cannot purchase again or reproduce at a reasonable cost or effort), you should copy the files manually to a safe place or use sync software/online backups to do so.

Pat, thanks for the reply. I deleted all the old NSB files and folder, did a "repair" on ATI, and now it's working consistently. This time, however, there is no TIB file in the "time explorer storage" folder? The program can find the files though, by using the "browse for non-stop backup" button in the file open dialog box. I use the differential scheme every night, saving 3 version chains. Just use NSB on a handful of folders that changes throughout the day. BTW, this on Win7x64 Ultimate...
