TI 2013 Build 6514 - Error open password protected TIB on Win7 Home Premium but opens ok on Win7 Professional

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I encounter difficulties when I attempt to open a True Image 2013 file backup (.tip) on a Windows 7 Home Premium computer.

Error: Error opening the backup archive.
Action could not be completed because the backup is damaged, used by aother process
or you have limited permissions to execute the action.
(translated from german message)

I use TI 2013 Build 6514 on both the Win7 Home premium and the Win7 64bit professional computer

The backup was created on a Win7 64bit professional computer using TI 2013 Build 6514.
The backup is password protected and split into 650MB tib files.
On the Win7 64bit professional computer I can open the tib-files without any errors.

The tip-files were first uploaded to a remote drive then downloaded to a local drive on the Win7 Home premium computer.

I made sure that I have all the permissions on the Win7 Home premium computer and that there are no processes accessing the tib-Files.

Appreciate any help on how to troubleshoot.

Thanks
Bodo

Is this a Windows error message or a True Image message? If Windows, I suspect that it is indeed a Windows permissions issue. In that case you would want to "take ownership" (Google that term for instructions) of that file. It's a common issue in Windows 7 and later, as Win7 introduced much stricter file permissions and file ownership control than what XP had.

Thanks tuttle for your quick response.

What I've tried so far:
1. On the computer where the backup was created I changed the owner of the tib files from SYSTEM account to my windows account (which is a member of the same home networking group),
2. copied the file to the win7 premium home computer (logged in as a member of the same windows home networking group)
3. doubleclick on the tib files gives me now access to the backup

Now I found some advanced options of my scheduled backup:
- File-based Security
- [ x ] Keep Filesecurity settings in backup
Haven't tried this.

Windows account
- Create Backup with a specific account.
I've tried this options by entering my windows account but was unable to open
the file on the other computer.
