TI 2013 Recovery impossible due to dead mouse and keyboard!

Thread needs solution

I need to restore my system disk from a valid backup with True Image 2013, latest build, downloaded today.

I burned a recovery disk via the Acronis routines and boot my system. The mouse is dead, but the keyboard works, so I can select "True Image" from the main menu.

Now the keyboard is dead and I can't select "Recovery".

Ctrl-M doesn't do anything, neither the other key combination with Numlock. I plugged my keyboard and mouse into all available USB ports on my PC, switched from a wireless mouse to a cable mouse, used a different keyboard - all fails.

The systems stays unresponsive.

Now I'm pretty desperate - how can I get it to work?

Hmm, I can say with absolute certainty that all versions of 2013 work with this MB >>> Please see my Sig. I am using plain USB keyboard and mouse.

I have to head to work, but will gladly try and assist you with this.  Start by using Set Up Defaults in BIOS.  Maybe you have a incorrect USB setting.  I think I'm using Legacy....  but will confirm this for you later tonight.  If you are not comfortable using set up defaults, and don't want to go through each and every BIOS settings after, just refer to your MB manual.  Confirm everything related to USB is set to [Default].  Asus denotes all default settings in BIOS with brackets in the manual.  I'll check back with you later, or one of the other MVP's might jump in while I'm at the office.

The final build of 2013 has several issues with the bootable media created within the program. One of which is unresponsive mouse and keyboard. An updated ISO is posted under your account under MY Products and Downloads. Try downloading and burning it to a CD to see if it solves your problem.

If that fails you can request a trial of the 2014 version. Once the trial key is registered in your account, you can download the ISO for its bootable media and burn it to a CD. You won't be able to use it for backups or cloning, but it can be used perpetually to perform restores from archives created by any earlier version of Acronis. It will have the most up to date drivers so it might work for your system.

If that fails you should contact paid support. Recovery issues are free.

The following screenshot shows what to click after signing into your account to access the updated ISO.

Wolfgang,
Joey makes an interesting point. The final release of 2013 build 6514 is actually build #6528, but Acronis chose not to list this build. The primary reason for it's release was to fix a compatibility issue with GPT disks in the boot environment. However, I've used all 3 builds successfully with the z68 chipset. Builds 5551, 6514 and 6528 (aka new 6514 released on 4/2013).

Give that updated media a try. We can look more closely at your BIOS settings if you wish.

Thanks all,

I have finally found a solution:

Resetting all BIOS USB parameters to default didn't help, btw.

After unplugging all of my numerous USB devices (MIDI interface, card and smartcard readers, graphics tablet, 4 USB disks etc.) the keyboard still was dead.

But now a cable USB mouse works - this did the trick.

Great. Ultimately a compatibility or resources issue.
