TI 2013 Universal Restore Driver Issue

Thread needs solution

Synopsis:

Dissimilar hardware disk restore using universal restore. Nothing fancy, ASUS P5B Core 2 Duo to ASUS P8Z77-V LE i5. XP(SP3), UEFI disabled on new box. It seems to be failing due to a missing driver: 'PCI\VEN_1B4B&DEV_9120&SUBSYS_83BA1043&REV_12'

This is the Marvel Sata driver, some flavor of mv91xx. I have searched high and low and cannot find this raw driver. I've been to ASUS and Marvell websites. The driver that ships with the MB CD lists:

This looks like it includes the 9120 revision (if I'm reading this correctly).

Have opened a case with Acronis but was hoping that the wisdom of the group would shed some light on this. I'm attaching a log file.

Pretty sure the wisdom of the group will be that I'm a dumb s*** in some manner.

Thanks,

This error is because you do not have the 32 bit XP drivers available for Universal Restore to use.

You also did not mention if the system actually tried to boot, or any errors while trying to do so.

You system uses Intel SATA controllers as well as the Marvel controller. If your boot/OS drives/partitions are not connected to the Marvel controller, then the missing driver is not your problem with UR.

In any case, attached you will find the 32 bit drivers necessary for your Marvel controller.

Be sure to have ALL of the files attached available for use by UR.

James:

Thanks for the response. I tried it with the drivers you attached but they look substantially the same as the ones I got from the motherboard CD.
Marvell website does not provide the raw drivers or anything very useful. There is another issue with an eSata driver but I'm trying to get this to work one issue at a time. After 15 times or so the recover operation seems to have stabilized to the same routine.

It almost completes then calls for a driver (I can't figure out how to insert inline images here or I would show the message).

I am presenting the driver during the recovery setup of course. If I retry the message comes back. If I ignore it produces a request for another driver (Realtek eSata). I haven't researched this yet.

Ignoring the requests results in a Restore Success messagebox.

The system boots to a Windows XP logo followed by a tenth of a second blue screen. I filmed it and it says:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error restart your computer and follow these steps:

Check for virusus on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers."

Old system: I did a full virus scan with Avast and a disk defrag to prepare the system for backup.

New System: I formatted the hard drive and deleted all partitions prior to the restore.

I'm setting the new drive up as one partition during the restore.

I'm using verify on both the backup and restore routines.

After all this the system will boot to the Window screen where I have the option to start in Safe Mode. It will not start in Safe Mode or get me to a Command Prompt.

Thanks for your input. I'm trying to preserve a development machine here, if I lost it I would have a disaster on my hands.

The quick way to get you going is if you have a XP CD with the latest service pack embedded, run a repair install of XP, this will reset registry as far as Windows drivers are concerned. All your installed programs are safe and will work afterwards, however any Windows updates that have occured since the last service pack would need to be redownloaded.

To run an XP repair install, run the CD, select Install and wait for the installer to tell you it has found an existing installation. At this point you should ahve two options, install or repair, select repair, Windows will then delte registry entreis and remake the registry. If you don't see the repair option at this point, do not continue as an 'install' will wipe out your current system.

If you have a mobile phone camera or any camera really, take a photo of the screen, then download the resulting JPG/PNG to your PC, when you next post you will see at the bottom of the text box an item labelled 'file attachments' click on this and upload your screen photo.

If you save the log of the UR restore, you can attach it here for review.

Thanks for the input gents. I actually attempted a repair install and wound up in the same boat with the same bsod. This eventually led to the discovery that the HDD controller in the BIOS in the new motherboard was defaulted to AHCI. XP can't deal with AHCI natively without a driver dance. I changed it to IDE and the recover booted. My screen is still a little smudged where the tears of joy were. I figured out how to change them after the fact but it was a little tricky, I hosed the recover once fooling with them but at that point I knew I could get it back.

Was a little panicked and I appreciate the help. My fault for not staying current with the technology.
