TI 2014 Report Discrepancy Between Two PCs

Thread needs solution

TI 2014 is installed on my two PCs. Both PCs backup to an external drive connected to PC2, and its shared on the network.

I created a backup schedule on PC1. TI 2014 on PC1 reports the backup is "not backed up yet," but TI 2014 on PC2 reports "last:Today at 2:00 AM."

How can that be and how can I resolve it?

Mark, as far as I am aware you cannot check the status of a backup task that runs on PC1 by looking at information on PC2 in the ATIH 2014 program installed there.

These tasks may be sharing the same 'shared' external backup drive but they do not share any task history information or task logs etc.  The only information that may be shared is backup image files (.TIB) that each copy of the program detects as being found on the shared external drive.

Please look at the Acronis logs on PC1 to determine whether that backup task has executed and completed successfully.  Do the same on PC2.

Note: given that you are using the shared external drive, please ensure that you are either putting the PC1 and PC2 backup image files in different/separate folders, or that they have different/unique file names so that there can be no confusion as to which files belong to which system.

Steve,

Thank you for your reply.

"you cannot check the status of a backup task that runs on PC1 by looking at information on PC2 in the ATIH 2014 program installed there."

But that's what's happening and what prompted my questions. ATIH 2014 on PC2 IS reporting the status of the PC1 backup, even though I created the PC1 schedule on the PC1 ATIH 2014.

"Please look at the Acronis logs on PC1 to determine whether that backup task has executed and completed successfully."

The PC1 log shows the PC1 backups were successful. But on the PC1 Backup and recovery tab it shows "not backed up yet." On the PC2 Backup and recovery tab it shows the PC1 backup Versions: 2 (last Today at 2:00 AM). I also can see the PC1 backup files through PC2 ATIH 2014 and Explorer, but I CANNOT see them through PC1 ATIH2014.

The PC1 and PC2 backups are in different sub-folders of the My Backups folder, AND have unique names.

As it now stands, I can’t recover PC1 backups from PC1, but from PC2. Weird.

Here's PC2: http://screencast.com/t/Xj5JRdNjK

Mark, thank you for the screen shots - all very strange that the logs say one thing but the GUI says differently!

Not sure what to advise here for this one.  Any backups should be able to be restored using the standalone Acronis bootable rescue media by simply connecting your external USB drive to the system being restored.

If you can open the external drive from PC1 via Windows Explorer and either mount or explore the .TIB file contents, then that should show that the backup is good.

Steve,

Thanks again for your replies.

Do you work for Acronis?

Do recommend upgrading ATIH 2014 for Windows 7-64 PCs?

Mark, I am just another user like yourself and just volunteer helping in these forums as a long time user of the product.

If you are considering upgrading from ATIH 2014, you may want to wait a little longer as ATIH 2017 is currently in Beta testing and should be released to the general public for purchase sometime in September / October period.

You can join the Beta program at http://www.acronis.com/en-us/homecomputing/trueimage/beta/2017.html if interested though I would recommend trying it out on a spare PC if you have one as the user interface may come as a culture shock after using 2014!
