Ti 2015 & Outlook Backup
Is it still possible to back up and restore Outlook using TI 2015? If not how does one back up ones emails?
Thanks

I'm assuming you aren't making complete disk/partition images which would of course include all your emails.
The only way I can think is to perform a files backup that just backup your PST/OST file.

Outlook backup as a feature has been removed in ati2015.
Colin's workaround should suffice for most users. A more full bore workaround would be to also find and add all of the User outlook directories.
For me, rather than the full bore workaround, it would be easier to just do a full disk backup. Disk space is cheap, my time is not.

Hello Everyone,
we've published an article on this subject: Acronis True Image 2015: E-Mail Backup Is Not Supported
Thank you.

have a look here. I've been working on my own solution. To backup the .ost/.pst files you need to have Outlook closed down. I have that working but there seems to be an issue with the start up again

My response to the 'article' is: "Most serious users partition their system and data separately. And not ALL 'data' needs to be backed-up. So suggesting a full system image backup is no answer at all for any but the most simple users.". I use Thunderbird and the fact that TIH can't snapshot an open file is ridiculous. It makes scheduled backups impossible.

Whatever other purpose you serve with backups, in addition to that a full disk image is a good way to product against loss from drive failure or profs that go wonky

This is all very useful apart from the fact I have some old Outlook back ups that I'd like to recover created from before you took it out. Is my data lost ?

If you have a disk backup that includes the Outlook files then all you mail should be in the outlook archives. I can't tell you were those are on your machine -- there's no rule that they be in any one place. You can find them under Outlook, Option, Email setup, Data Files. That will list you archive(s) and you can find their location from that.
rename the archives you are using now to some temporary name. mount the backup disk image and find files with those same names (usually .pst or .ost files e.g., personal.pst), and copy them to the directory with the files you just renamed. Reopen outlook. You might have to tell outlook to open the archives (File menu, Data File Management). Once you open these versions of the archives you will have whatever outlook files you had at the time of the backup. If you want your (now renamed) archives back, then you can save any messages in you want to disk and change archives. You can then later reopen the saved messages individually when after you change back to using the renamed archives.
to change back the archives, rename the ones from the backup image and change back the names back for the ones you renamed earlier.
Outlook, or as we call it at work, LookOut!, kind of sucks because it uses this proprietary single file database to store all your messages, making access difficult.
Note that none of the above applies to any Outlook files that are on your mail server if you are on an outlook mail Exchange. Those files, unless archived locally are on the server or cloud somewhere. If you can't find them, call NSA, they have tabs on all of them. ;)

BTW, if you close outlook you can backup the OUtlook archives files as part of a file backup in Acronis. However, I recommend the full disk backup for the robust protection it offers.

Sadly I don't have a back up disk image that includes them, I just have a list of files (167 of them) that are all called Microsoft Office Outlook_inc and then a series of numbers from 2 to 180. The directory looks like this

You should be able to restore any or all of these tibs to any location of your choice. Restore one or two and see what you have. If you have .ost, .pst or individual messages, you can open them in OUtlook.

I click on the latest one and TI loads, opens a page with the files on the left and a drive on the right. Neither are clickable. When I click the i in between them it says the format is no longer supported. I bought 2016 in the hope they may have added a way to get at them, but it seems not. I'm wondering if I should go back to 2014, possibly just to restore these files

If you have an ati boot disk form version 2014, you can boot into that and see if you can access the tib internals. that's easier than uninstall the current version, installing ti2014.

Looked and can't find it. Versus the time I've wasted trying to get this data back and uninstall/install/update should be easy. Thanks for your help. If I do get it back I will do a disaster recovery test with all the latest data and prog.
Thanks again :-)

If you can't find it, you can download the iso from acronis.com by logging into your account. You can use windows or any CD burner to burnthe iso onto a CD. Only take a few minutes.

What an elegant and efficient solution. Thank you Scott :-)
