TI Echo Workstation Question on Clone vs. Backup (Imaging)

Thread needs solution

I have an external USB drive with 400GB of data, mostly the backup images of all my machines. I want to make a backup of THIS drive onto a second identical external USB drive, as a safety.

Using Acronis True Image Echo Workstation, what would be the best way to do this? To use the Clone function? Or to backup (image) the first drive? Or to try just dragging (copying) the contents of the first to the second?

Hello Michael,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

No worries, I will help you to clarify this situation and answer all questions concerning our products.

In your situation I would make a backup of source drive just saving it to the external one, because in case of disaster it would be safer and easier to restore the image back from external drive to the source (does not matter if it's the same or new HDD). If you clone the HDD and swap the drives, it may cause boot issue.

The general difference between disk clone and backup is described in this article.

I'd like to make sure all your queries regarding Acronis products are resolved.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Thank you.
