TI Home 2009 fails scheduled backup but manually works

Thread needs solution

I recently rebuilt my XP Pro desktop and purchased TI Home 2009. The backups work fine as long as I do them manually. I have a scheduled backup that has always failed but running it manually (right-click on the task and choose to run it) works fine. The destination is an Acronis Secure Zone of 100GB on a Seagate FreeAgent 1TB USB drive using drive letter H:, if it matters. The first attachment is the email I get when it fails while the second is from the manual run.

The only thing I've found from searches is to increase the IRPstacksize registry entry, which I've done multiple times (I'm up to hex 20/decimal 32). The error doesn't say the usual "not enough server storage", just "not enough storage", as if it isn't communicating with the destination drive although the manual backup finds it just fine. Suggestions?

I don't so scheduled backups but the first thing I would try is to delete the scheduled task and create a new one.

Is a network involved here? Is the external drive attached to your computer or another computer?

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

In order to solve the issue please update Acronis scheduler using the following KB article.

Also please make sure that Acronis Scheduler2 Service (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services) Startup Type is set to Automatic. Otherwise, please set it to Automatic yourself and reboot your computer.

If the issue persists please recreate Acronis Secure Zone and let us know the results.

I installed the scheduler update and rebooted for good measure. I then rescheduled to simulate what I wanted to do and so far, so good. If it's this simple, no further action will be required. I'll repost if something pops up.

However, why wouldn't the above update have been part of the software update process I ran after the initial install? Seems silly to have updates that don't include everything. I've seen references to the scheduler update but they start years ago - why wouldn't the current updates be up to date?

Oh, yeah, how would I save the existing backups to allow me to recreate the ASZ? There doesn't seem to be any way to do this and wiping out old backups isn't what I would want to do.

I seem to remember reading in the old forum that a Linux live cd can "see" into the SZ. Check it out and let us know if it works.

Re: Unhide Secure Zone on the old forum by contributor Kento
Okay, then if you have partition manager (such as Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite) you could do the following to unhide the Secure Zone:

(this instructions for Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite)

- Right-click on Acronis Secure Zone in the main window of ADD
- Go to Advanced->Change type
- Set type to "0Ch FAT32 LBA"
- Conmmit the changes

Go to Disk Management (Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management) and assign drive letter the Secure Zone. That's it, Secure Zone is now visible and you can access it.

My Addendum:
I am not sure but I believe this procedure can be done using the Acronis Disk Director trail version or by one of the free Partition Managers.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have DD but do have Fedora installed so I can access the SZ from there - tried a copy to my Linux desktop with no problems.

Ok, after recreating the task and recreating the ASZ multiple times, nothing is working for the automatic run. It seems like it will work as long as the computer has been in use for some time (I'm working on it and the scheduled job runs at that point) but this job is to run very early in the morning when the system is in suspend. I have other jobs set up so the computer is awake for a few minutes prior to starting the job but it fails every time with the "not enough storage" error. The only thing I can think of is that the external USB drive (a Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 1TB unit) has gone into a power-save mode but the log clearly shows that it has been activated and probed (drive H:) a minute or two earlier so that doesn't seem likely.

All this works manually. What do I try next?
