TI ver 9.0 Restore complete C:drive from image file

Thread needs solution

I want to create a new C: drive by restoring a image file from another hard disk.   My new C: drive does not have any Windows OS - the OS is part of the image file. I am running TI v9.0 - build 3854.  I have:

1.  Rescue CD,

2.  80 GB IDE hard drive (E: drive)  with several backup images of complete C: drive.

3.  IDE C: drive with suspect Windows XP OS.

I want to remove this 40 GB C: drive, replace it with a new 40 GB IDE drive, and restore the complete C: drive, including OS.

I want to do this so that I have a good replacement for my suspect C: drive.  I also want to do this to test out the method I would use if I had a complete failure of my C: drive.

How do I configure my drives for this type of restore:  I'm guessing....

11  boot from Rescue CD?

2.  New blank 40G as Master?

3.  Existing aux Hard Drive (old E:) with multiple image files as slave?

Thanks for your help

John:

I'd do exactly as you have suggested. I did this same operation from a TI-10 backup. I did encounter two issues however.

1. My TI-10 rescue CD refused to see my external IDE (via firewire) backup drive. I installed the free trial TI-2009, built a new rescue disk from it, and things worked. (Note, installing TI-2009 "free trial" will remove your TI-9) :-(

2. After attempting to restore the image to a new C: drive I had more problems. Since the new drive was blank, I tried partitioning and quick formatting it with XP pro. After that my restore started correctly and resulted in a perfect bootable and functional system.

Check items 7A & 7B inside my signature link. Since you plan to restore to a same size drive, you can do a disk restore. Have you checked inside your Windows Disk Management feature to look at your partition structure? Do you have only the one partition?
