TI2013 - repeated backup / restore freezes in AHCI mode - works fine in IDE

Thread needs solution

I'm a TI user since version 8, now having shifted to a Win7 x64 system on a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 mainboard using AHCI mode.

Both TI2012 and 2013 (just did the update hoping to eliminate the issue) refuse to complete any backup / restore tasks from an AHCI-operated SSD drive (OCZ vertex 4). Under IDE mode, everything is fine.

Is there no fix from Acronis to finally make AHCI operation compatible between Gigabyte board controllers, AHCI driver and TI?

It is really getting a big nuisance, always having to switch to IDE in BIOS, reboot, only then being able to work with TI2013. Feels like spoilt money for TI2013 since obviously nothing has improved with this regard ;-(((

Any hints/help?

Regards,
Reinhard

You observe this only from the recovery CD, right?

I'm also experiencing the same problem with 2013, Works fine from Windows 7, but it's really the ability to boot into True Image from a USB which I need, unfortunately it hangs part way through, I'm able to select True Image and it will then put up the screen with all the Patents on the lower part then it goes to a black screen and will hang there with the cursor on screen... I then have to do a reset.

Strangely it works fine on my laptop, but I believe that is because it's not using AHCI just standard IDE mode. I've spent a bit of time trying to resolve it by trying ALL the preload boot switches to no avail, I then tried various options in my desktop PC bios, as I figured it's obviously some compatability issue.
Anyway like the original poster I narrowed it down to AHCI, if I change disk mode to either IDE or Raid it boots fine.

I'm running a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P board with i7 cpu and like the original poster also have a Ocz SSD boot drive, so obviously I want to retain the AHCI bios option, so I don't have to keep changing it to IDE everytime I want to boot True Image.

I have a feeling any solution to resolve the original posters problem will also fix mine... hence the reason for my post... and my apologies to the OP for hijacking his thread, but as we both have the same problem I hope your'll forgive me. :-)

True Image 2011 which I was previously using boots fine and I've not had any problems, but 2013 does not like this system for reason.

The problem occurs when booting the recovery from USB or CD, IOW it won't boot from Dos due to some AHCI issue. (Windows version is fine)

The problem could be down to how the USB stick reports itself to the BIOS and how the BIOS deals with USB sticks.

As an example I have a Sandisk USB stick, using Grub4Dos as the bootloader, it boots fine on my laptop, on my main PC ( a no name using a Gigabyte motherboard), the stick cannot boot the PC, normally the error message is no operating system. However, if I use my other USB stick formatted with RMPREPusb that will boot on both machines.

One USB stick reprots itself as a removable hard drive and the other as a USB flash drive, the BIOS treats them differently.

Althopugh this will delete all your files on your USB stick, it might be worthwhile to try formatting them with either RMPREPUsb ( the version recommended for FIRADISK) or the HP bootable USB utility as they can with some USB sticks make them act like a removable hard drive rather than as a USB stick.
