TIH 11 does not start - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error

Since a few days when trying to start Acronis TruimageHome 11.0 it refuses to start with the error message:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Programme\Acronis\TrueimageHome\TrueImage.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application´s support team for more information.
What can I do to make it work?

If Mudcrab's suggestion doesn't help, (and they usually do, but if not in this particular case) you might try doing an uninstall and reinstal. For this I recommend using msconfig.exe to disable all nonmicrosoft services and all start up programs, then rebooting and uninstalling. then installing.
See if it works then. If so, then use msconfig to re-enable all services and start up progs. IF the prob recurrs at that point, it's a conflict with one of the the re-enabled items.

11.0.0.8105 is the version of the executable trueimage.exe
Build 8105 is the one also I had now deinstalled and reinstalled without desired result.
I tried the KB article advice, but could not find a Formatik folder under the Drive Cleanser folder.
I even searched the whole registry for the word "Formatik" but the search did not find it.
Could it be useful to deinstall and ompletely remove everything from the registry manually which has been planted there by Acronis and then reinstall?
Scott´s Advice seems to be quite time consuming, thinking about how long it takes to boot the systembut maybe there is not way around it.

Scrubbing is a good idea and you can use the scdrubber Acronis makes available. However, is something in the running services and startups mucked the first install, it could do it again and then you'll be back where you started. Msconfig is a way to take any of those possible issues out of the uninstall/install equation. Not a cure-all, just makes things easier in the long run in problem install situations.
Btw, try searching for "FOMATIK" instead of "foRmatik".
Deactivating all Services and system start programs, reinstallation of TIHome11 brought it back to working life again. Thank you for the advice. I will then start to fiddle with msconfig to find out who was the culprit. But at first a backup which has been due some time...

If no Backup Locations have been created, that registry value and sub-values won't exist.

It turns out to be as much work as I feared. At first many necessary services were not active, antivirus software, vnc-server, etc etc etc. For many of the services or startup software I cannot guess from the name what they are. After adding one piece a time I got impatient and started to add more, again the error message immediately after starting TIH11.
What I wondered then
1) When I again deactivated all services and startup software with msconfig, rebooted, TIH11 did not start. Why is that so?
2) Then I uninstalled TIH11 again, rebooted. Now I wanted to wipe off everything TIH11 had left on my harddisk. Deleting the still existing program folder worked. Then I wanted to clean the registry of everything reminding of TIH11. Searching for the string "Acronis" yielded folders with that name but whenever trying to delete them, the system refused to do so. What are those remnants in my registry after deinstalling TOH11? Shouldn´t be everythin either wiped off already or at least wipeable off?
3) Is there any log file which would tell me which conflict causes the program to crash? Either written by TIH11 or by WindowsXP?
I have installed TIH11 again and it works again, but again leaving me with the painstaking procedure to find out who is guilty.
Creating backups with the bootable-CD works, but is a nuisance. The automatic incremental backup to my NAS was just so convenient....
And I just gave up to try get the quoted part out of this message, it always reappears.

You could try the Acronis Clean Up Utility and see if things are better after TI is completely removed and then reinstalled.
To remove the extra quotes, you'd need to edit the post, view the source and delete it. I gave up a long time ago on using the "built in" quoting. It's just too problematic. Much easier to just code manually. Also, don't preview the post. Every time you do that it duplicates it or screws it up.
If you disabled all startup services after installing ATI, then you disalbed the ATI startup services, thus it would not run. You could try again disabling all except the ATI service, then ATI should run fine. Just look for the SErvices with Acronis in the name.
Unfortuantely, in Win the way to see what progs are conflicting is to add them back one at a time -- the most likely culpirts first. E.g., try adding back the security software. If that's the prob, then try in the security software settings to make aTI and allowed prog.
Thanks for your advices. Unfortunately that all turns out to be a real pain in the neck. When I disable whatever I think might be disabled, I can be sure that something important in the system has quitted to work thereafter. I have also tried the cleaner utility whithout success.
Maybe a symptom from which somebody might guess something: just before the end of the installation the system announces that it has to close explorer.exe for some reason. All the pictures disappear from the desktop background, come back thereafter.
Setting up the whole system from scratch seems to be even more work than doing backups manually with the boot-cd..

They have an new version 1.0.8.16 but I do not dare to instlal it after the painstaking search for the culprit.
I actually did not activate every single entry and then boot the system. I took groups of 5 most innocent and necessary looking entries at a time. Netdrive was a suspect since at the end of installation explorer crashed. There is another similar program supplied by my internet provider to access data space at his server as a drive, that did not cause a problem when I reactivated it. I had actually at first suspected the new version of foldersize and downgraded to the old version, but foldersize was not guilty.
I used the time waiting for rebooting to tidy up the mess on my desk and bookshelf - so the problem had postitive consequence, too.

I have tried all the suggestions listed about this error and am still unable to make the program, I am very disappointed with the time it takes to make a piece of software like this to work. I have turned off everything in startup and cleaned out the old installations and reinstalled two times and and still same old Runtime error. Don't know where to go next, never ever had a piece of software right out of the box give this much trouble.
I also have the same problem with TIH 2011 Build 6696. It install OK but when I am choosing the files and folders to back up the program closes with this C ++ runtime error.
Uninstalled using the Acronis clean-up utility and ran a registry cleanup; reinstalled but still the same problem.
I am using Windows 7 SP1 64 bit.
Have done a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1, ran Microsoft updates, no other software installed and Acronis TIH 2011 still crashes with the same error

Try to install the previous build 6597. I had to go back to it as there was a bug when selecting certain folders. I doubt this is exactly the case that makes your ATI crash, but I thought it would be worth a try.

I have tried using a previous version but still get the same error. Program just closes before I get the chance to configure the backup; this part of the program was always a bit buggy.
I have tried a base install of Windows 7 64 bit (with SP1 and without) no updates, no antivirus and using Windows 7 firewall; ran MSCONFIG, hid all Microsoft services and the only services left were Acronis. Still the program just closes; sometimes I get the Runtime C++ error but not always.
Even with ATI installed cannot open any old backups, need to boot from the CD to do this.
I need to use 64 bit OS as I have 12 GB of ram.
I will try Windows 7 32 bit next weekend to see if this helps, spent too much time on it this weekend.

This kind of error is very hard to debug.
If this is the non stop backup, try to delete the time explorer storage folder (hidden) and restart the backup.
If you cannot get to an error-free situation on a fresh Windows install, with no tweak, I have low expectations you can isolate the culprit yourself. You should consider filing a support ticket.

I am not using the non stop backup, just want to use a scheduled backup; probably will raise a support ticket. Giving NovaStor backup a try at the moment, doesn't have all the the options Acronis has.
