TIH 2013 changes the MBR

Thread needs solution

Hi, I tried restoring a backup from within W7/64. When rebooting the system gets stuck on the second line of the boot message. If I hit ENTER it just boots into Windows and no restoring is done. At the end of the first line of the boot message "LOADING ACRONIS..." the characters suddenly become garbage and in the middle of the second line they just freeze. The problem is that now every time I boot the PC I get this message and I have to hit ENTER to continue and boot into Windows. Any way to restore the MBR so I don't have to do that every time? And why does the restore not work?
The only way for me to restore an image is for me to boot from my USB key backup and that's problematic as the mouse doesn't work and the keyboard only works partially

Do you have a Vista or W7 install disc ? If so then try the "repair my computer" option which is able to restore the MBR.

Acronis does overwrite the MBR and this can cause problems with accessing manufacturers recovery partitions (Dell comes to mind). I suspect your HDD has the boot info on a separate small partition and if so repairing the MBR with a disc will fix it. From then on you should be fine imaging and restoring your system with Acronis.

If you haven't a disc then there are still ways to fix it... google "repair MBR without install disc"

Peter,
With the limited information we have, can you also confirm whether or not you had ASR enabled on this disk?
