TIH 2014 - Failed Consolidation - Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have two windows xp workstations that use TIH 2014 to backup via FTP to an FTP server that is running on Windows 7 - the FTP user has complete full access to the directory to delete, write, etc. etc.. They have been backing up just fine until it came time to cleanup older versions. Its failing to consolidate the backups.

I have attached an image of the log file with the errors.

I have also attached the cleanup settings so you can see them.

The two errors that it says in the log are:

"Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure that the file is not opened in other applications."

"Failed to open data stream. Try to remove the backup from the list, add it again by clicking "Browse for backup" and recreate the backup settings.

Please let me know what I can do?

Thanks - Jonathan

Not sure of the exact cause but should you decide to cease using that task and start a new one, I would encourage you to change one of your backup scheme options. Rather than use the elapsed days setting, my recommendation is that the option "store no more then X recent chains" be used as this setting will avoid the consolidation or condensing of data into other backups. The option that I am suggesting is simply a cleanup option which enable the program to auto delete the old backups once your goal of "X" (store no more than X) has been reached. Deletion is much quicker without the delays/risk of consolidation.

My recommendation is that each task has its own individual folder and once the task is used, no changes to the task permitted except for schedule changes which can be done from the main menu rather then changed via the "change settings" option.

Change the number of chains stored (X) to fit your needs.
