TIH 2015 No Prompt for NAS credentials

Thread needs solution

Hi

I have ATIM 2015 build 6525 and Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64bit

I have just upgraded to 2015 from ATIH 2014. All was working just fine with 2014 but in the latest version of 2015 when I create a 'Files and Folders' backup, it will not prompt for the network credentials of the NAS. It does for all other network locations.

I even tried deleting the saved credentials from my Windows account, restarting and recreating the backup, but it still would not prompt for the NAS UN and PW. When I run the backup anyway it has an error that the NAS UN and PW are incorrect but no way to edit/add the credentials.

There was a link to the knowledge base in the error message that said to: "Make sure you provide correct credentials to back up to the network share. Click Edit connection settings in the error message. Provide correct username and password:"

https://kb.acronis.com/content/48578

There was no link to "Edit connection settings" in the error message.

Thanks, if I can't get this working I will have to revert back to 2014.

just to confirm, TIH 2014 did prompt for the credentials and was working flawlessly. See error message attached.

I am having the same problem with this error message. Is there any solution? I cannot find anywhere else in ATIM 2015 to check or change these credentials.

The link to the edit connection settings shows up in the exclamation mark showing that the backup has failed in the main UI.

Also, what if your password has changed and you want to change it in the backup setup. How would you go about doing that, besides waiting for it to fail? Especially since when it fails the required link to change it is not being presented.

When the "Edit Connection Settings" message appears does a rapid double click on that button bring up the credential box?

Did you not read this thread???

1) There is NO LINK. period. So how am I suppose to double click on it?

2) How would you go about changing the credentials that were defined in the original setup WITHOUT waiting for an error????

Sorry Bill. your comment in post number 2 seems to say that you are getting the same error message. If it were me I would disable your network connection for about 10 seconds and then re-enable it. Now if you attempt to run a back up you should get the credentials box pop up to logon (start a session) with the server. Disabling your network connection will end all active sessions so this should trigger the logon credential box.

AS I KEEP ASKING IN POINT 2,

How do you change the credentials without having to wait for or cause an error??? If I can't, then this is VERY BAD interface design!!!! I could do this in 2014 version with no problem which is why I had to revert back to it as 2015 would not work as I could not change the credentials.

What I suggested does not cause an error. Stopping and starting a net session is not uncommon in a network. If you attempt to access your NAS share via windows file explorer are you always asked for credentials? If you are not then your session with the NAS is not set to require logon with each access and so it would be with the TI application. The TI app uses your administrator credentials to run on your machine so if your admin user account has access to your NAS share without required logon for each time you connect to that share on your NAS then TI will not require it as well.

Uninstalled the thing and gone to Genie9. No problems with NAS backup and the files are readable zip files.

Yes, I am getting the same error as in the very first post.

I am an IT professional. I know how networks work and do require a password to connect to my NAS. It is stored in all my mapped connections to the NAS. So I am not prompted for each connection.

You seem to be telling me and others that if I change my password on the NAS that the only way that I can tell your software of the change to the password is to wait till the application fails on a connection and then click on some link on the error screen to give it the new credentials. Is this correct???

Now back the original problem I and others are having; the error message does not have this link you talk about!!!

Now back to my question!! How can I go into the saved setup/configuration for my backup and tell it what new credentials/password to use??

NOTE: Your software is the ONLY one that is having a problem. All my other software is not having an issue with this.

Bill,

We need to clear up some misconceptions here first thing.

1. This software is not mine, I do not own it nor do I work for those whom do. The MVP's on this Forum are all volunteers most of whom have used the software to a great extent and donate their time attempting to help other users with issues of use of the product.

2. I am not suggesting that if you change your password on your NAS that the only way to tell the software of the change is with a failure. I use the application with my own NAS and like you credentials are needed to access the share where my backups are stored. When I have had cause to change my password in my case when I have chosen the NAS as a destination after a few moments I am presented with a typical logon screen.

3. The error message that you talk about here I have not been presented with in TI 2015 but I am currently testing the upcoming TI 2016 BETA release and I have seen it there. I recognize that this is an apples to oranges comparison but many of the functions between versions remain the same. What I found with the BETA error message is that the link button being discussed here does appear but a single click on it had no effect. I found through experimentation that a double click did however trigger the typical popup logon credentials box. That is why I suggested that action previously in this thread. This may also work if the error does not appear or does not contain the link button. I am not involved in programming so I have not idea what the developers build into the app.

4. Sadly I know of no way to directly edit a network connection nor logon credentials within the application. I agree with you 100% that this is poor design and needs to be changed with direct access available for the users in a settings page. The new BETA version has no such feature either so in an attempt to get things working there I discovered that a rapid double click would produce the logon box. It may well require that your cursor be position over the destination to achieve this in the case of no error message or link button in such message missing.

I have given feedback about my connection issue to the development team. You can do so as well on the Acronis Support page. The louder the chatter the more things get looked at if you get what I mean!

I hope you can find a workaround for your issue. If you do please post back with that so others may benefit from it.

I am sorry for raving at you. But, like support I was not getting a direct answer to a direct question.

I have tried support. But, because I did not find this problem until after the short support window for the product, they would not help me without my laying out more money. So much for giving my feedback to support.

If the problem with password changing is still in 2016 then I am going to have to look at a new product, when I upgrade to Windows 10, as my 2014 that I had to downgrade back to does not support windows 10, according to Acronis' documentation.

As for feedback to support on the Support Web page on the right hand column menu at the bottom of the menu is a link to submit feedback. This is what I was referring to as your way to comment about your product. Since 2016 is still in development now is a great time to comment.

I do feel that the 2014 product will not work correctly with Windows 10 per what I have observed thus far in my testing. Some features may work fine others may not but I wonder if in fact Windows 10 will even run 2014 at all. I had 2 utility applications installed on Windows 10 that worked fine until the next build was released then Windows 10 informed me that those applications were not compatible and refused to run them. Now I did not try to run them in compatibility mode as they really did not make much difference to me on my test rig but, This is the first version of Windows I have seen that flat refused to even attempt to run an app period! Makes you wonder. Given the fact that backup applications perform functions at disk level I would not trust and old version of such an application on a new platform myself but each to his own.
